  1. I had a very relaxing kayak float this weekend on the Little Piney. Saturday I put in a the Vida Slab low-water bridge south of Rolla and took out at Milldam Hollow south of Newburg. I did not have much luck fishing, but the float was great and would recommend it. You have to arrange transportation yourself, but it was well worth it. It took around four hours, with a couple stops for fishing. This week I am going to try from Yancy Mills to the Bridge in Newburg for a much longer float. I'll let you know how it goes. I am hoping that hitting the spring sections will give my fly fishing a boost.
  2. I headed down to MC with my pup for a few days of relaxation and fishing last weekend and ended up having some pretty decent luck. I camped on the opposite side of the parking loop at Wilkins Spring and barely saw a sole all weekend. I fished each morning and evening (Friday being the best). I fished downstream at Bohigan on Friday during pretty good cloud cover and caught something out of pretty much every hole. Nothing too large, generall aroun 8" or so, but I did manage to pull out a 14-15" a ways down (see picture). Saurday I fished upstream from bohigan with little luck, and upstream from the low-water bridge (about the same). Sunday, I ended up fishing down River from the spring and pulled out an obscene amount of chitlins (+- 4"). All in all I had a great weekend and will be back soon. The water was low and clear, but alas, did not give me any troubles fishing. This was my first weekend fly fishing and was very satisfied with the results. -Matt
  3. I don't think Lane Springs is open for camping yet, but I know Mill Creek is. I am at Missouri S&T in Rolla and go to mill creek on a weekly basis. There are endless camping spots scattered everywhere with no fees and usually tend to be pretty quiet. I have already been camping there a couple times this year. Just search out a great spot and stake your claim. The spots are spread throughout the park, so sometimes you have to take a little drive to find the perfect one. My favorite spots are either across the low water bridge part way down mill creek road or (when no one is there) I like to camp down by the main spring at the pond. I haven't had a lot of luck fishing out there, but I don't fly fish, so I use that as my excuse! Good luck.
