  1. Got to fish a couple hours this morning around eagle rock and Big M. Started the day off quickly with 5 in the boat in the first 15 minutes. Slowed tremendously after 8:00. We caught all our fish on main lake points in 10-15 FOW on both a jerk bait and Keitech. Tried throwing the Rock Crawler and Wiggle Wart with no takers. Finished off the morning with 2 fish on the jig in 10 FOW. Water Temps were between 55 and 57.
  2. Long time consumer, first time contributor. Thanks to all that post frequently, tremendous help to us who don’t get as much time on the water. had a good evening at Big M Friday night, especially the smallmouth. All our fish came in 15-20FOW on gravel bottom areas using a Keitech 4” sexy shad on 1/8 jig head. Best pocket of water for us was 50 yards from the boat ramp! Mixed bag of smallies, spotted and a nice walleye. Saw a few females on beds behind the marina but spent most of our time in the deeper water. We saw a lot of fish pushing shad in the back of pockets but couldn’t get them to take interest in our spook/plopper. Top water is going to get interesting with the warm weather in our forecast.
  3. I was planning on heading up the war eagle tomorrow afternoon, upriver from camp war eagle about 2 miles. I was wondering what everyones thoughts were on water clarity after the rain this evening? how much water clarity must there be to successfully catch white bass? I was thinking either hit up war eagle for whites, or prairie creek for stripers?
  4. Spent some time last weekend up the war eagle, about 2 miles from war eagle marina. White bass where not up that far yet, but water was gin clear.. Has anyone been up the war eagle n(or around blue springs) in the past few days? I have heard that the water looks like chocolate milk from this recent rain event.
  5. I am selling two fly rod and reel set ups. 1. Sage Launch 9' 5 wt (2 piece) with a Ross Flycast reel and Rio shooting head line. ($300.00) 2. 6. I have read many post on here that specifically talk about what type of top water lures to use for stripers, but my question to you guys is what is the best top water lure for black and spotted bass? I guess I will pose the same question on crank baits, what is the most productive size and color

  8. Thinking about heading to beaver tailwaters with an 8wt and 250 grain sink tip to hunt down some stripers or hybrids... Has anyone heard of people catching hybrids and stripers this past week on the tailwaters, or does anyone have a recent fishing report?
  9. how is the best way to differentiate a striper hit and a bass hitting the top of the water. I know that during the spring, when the stripers are hitting top, it sounds like someone dropping a 10 pound dumbbell in the water, is this also the case in the fall?
  10. I been on beaver in a couple of weeks.. Wanting to see if anyone has seen the stripes hitting top yet? or white bass? Looking to go out Friday evening? anyone have some suggestions where to go? havent
  11. Does anyone know who to contact about the Wednesday night tournaments at Prairie Creek? do you have to register, or just show up?
  12. Jay bird, what fly were you using? where you fishing at night, or just at dusk. are you just casting to busting fish? Please let me know how you go about chasing these fish on a fly rod... hard fish to catch on the fly on beaver thanks
  13. What is it? and what marina?
  14. I have heard rumors that the stripers hit top water again in November.. From any of your experiences, is this true? If so, what part of the lake are they typically in november?
  15. JEb, where were you when you saw the ducks? what part of the lake?
  16. I am somewhat new to this area, and i was wondering if any of you guys ever had any luck duck hunting on beaver lake?
  17. what is the method for catching stripers at night? (without using live bait) Will they continue to hit on top at night?
  18. I was out last night fishing, We hit a massive school of stripers and hybrids and we caught fish non stop for 45 min. without even moving the boat. They hit on top water and jerk baits in shad color. (i was pretty upset that i did not have my fly rod with me!!) look for flooded timber and stick ups off main lake points, or the mouths of major coves. although people will tell you stripers are not structure fish, the past 3 weeks i have only caught fish that were in or near stick ups off main lake points.
  19. I might be heading to twin on wednesday, i will let you know tomorrow. I am heading that way tonight for a few hours to get a good handle on where the whites are at. Fished this weekend with little success.
  20. Yes i do tie, and I will bring an 8 or 9 wt.... For some reason i am obsessed with catching the most difficult fish on a fly rod. For this spring, my goal is a striper over 20lbs. This spring/summer it is to catch a muskie on the fly. I think it can be done with much patients and the ability to sight fish. I plan on tying bid nasty flies in the 6 to 8 inch ranch.
  21. Where are the islands in conjunction with Walkers Bluff? i have fished from twin down to Walkers? anyone know if stripers make their run up the white to twin bridge area?
  22. i would put in at the war eagle access point. and the name of the ramp off of 62 is the blue springs access.
  23. WOW, yeah we have a cabin just outside of Steamboat springs. My last trip up there we floated the yampa outside of Craig... We did not catch any Pike that trip but we absolutely HAMMERED the smallmouth. I actually moved to Arkansas about 3 years ago to finish college at the UofA, but i still make it back to Colorado for some fishing. I appreciate all the information, i am going to give pomme a try here in a month or two.
  24. BW, I have been chasing stripers on beaver lake for the past few weeks. Keep in mind as you start to "HUNT" for these fish that it will require countless hours on the water locating and hooking up with one of these illusive fish, but the reward is so sweet. What we have found out in the past few weeks is that stripers are more active in the tope 5 feet of the water column in the morning. It will require getting on the water before daylight and watching the surface for schooling stripers. This may sound easy.... but there is a lot of water to cover. In my opinion, all this is what makes fishing for these so fun. I would highly recommend an 8wt. A 9wt would be better suited for stripers, but you loose versatility to fish other smaller species. The key to landing stripers is having a quality reel, if you are trying to stay cost effective i would highly recommend the Lamson Konic. This reel has a great drag system and it is also sealed for salt water use. The reel only costs $140. the most appropriate line you can have on your Striper/black bass/white bass/smallmouth bass setup is an intermediate line. IT IS A CLEAR FLY LINE. Stripers are spooked very easy, the clear fly line leaves no color trial as you retrieve your fly. another key to catching stripers is to tie GOOD FLIES.... these fish feed on gizzard shad and threadfin shad. there are many fly patterns that you can buy or tie that replicate these two shad. The most important key to choosing the fly is the size!!! MAKE SURE THE SIZE OF YOUR FLY MATCHES THE SIZE OF THE SHAD FOR THE TIME OF YEAR YOU ARE FISHING. Good luck as you hunt these fish with the fly.
  25. I have heard that Pomme holds some nice tiger muskies?? I am from Colorado and have spent many hours chasing pike with a fly rod. Can anyone tell me when the best time of year to catch some muskies is? Is there a time of year that they spawn, or move to shallow water? any information would be greatly appreciated.
