I know, hope it recedes quickly as I am itching to get on the point, good freind of mine in KY got flooded for the first time, it is a wet spring for everyone JK

brian When I was down there with my daughter a few weeks ago, you said the river could use a good flood to clean it out, well it looks like it happened. I guess it is mother natures form of spring cleaning, lets hope the rain stops soon JK

Last week my daughter was on spring break from Stephens College and she wanted to go fly fishing. She had never touch a fly rod so I hired brian to guide us and help her as I have no patience when it comes to my daughter the drama queen which is what she is studying to be an actress. We were lucky on the weather and the stream was in awsome shape, looks like a good year on the point. The fishing was steady not spectacular but Brian did help my daugther get at least 4 hook ups and three to hand, not bad for a first timer. Unfortunately the first hook up was the biggest and she lost it not knowing how to properly fight it. By the end of the day Brian felt comfortable having her toss a 2 fly rig. For those who haven't used Brian, he is very helpful and skilled teacher, I am an avid fly fisherman and I know I could not have taught my dauhter any better. The best thing is that now my daughter wants to do this at least once a year which is something we can share in the future. I will post pictures when I get the camera back from my daughter

Brian was able to get me and my fishing bud Jim out on Monday. The weather was primo for November, 70 degrees and cloudy, and the fishing equally primo. The river was low but was in fabulous shape, saw plenty of wildlife and a few eagles. We caught well over 40 fish between us, nothing big. The encouraging part was the amount of small wild trout we caught. We caught them on bead head golden stones, dons crawdad, red egg, and mohair leach. Fishing was good from Island one through Mary Deckers, with little hurricane on fire, we could of fished there all day. Surprisingly we caught a lot of the fish in fast running shallow water around 1 1/2 feet. Good time to check out the point

Yeh but what Brian failed to say is he dominated next time I will bring more stone flys. Brian is spot on we caught fish consistently and the river is in fantastic shape, now is the time to get a line wet or just get out enjoy the scenery Thanks for the whopping Brian, Great fishing with you and Ryan All the best JK

Happy belated birthday Brian, whats it feel like to be 50, OK 49. Whatever your age congrats, the Cast and Blast will happen in July this year, hopefully it will warm enough to get a line wet, all the best JK

I met a good friend from Tennessee at 11pt canoe for a day of fishing on the point. The heat index for that day was over 105 but it wasn't bad on the river other than the killer flys that ate us to pieces. The fishing was excellent, we caught fish everywhere we stopped, our largest was 17" caught at Island four. The most productive area by far was the shoal just above Little Huricaine rapids, between my freind an I we caught a good dozen there and another 10 or so in Hurricaine rapids. The settup we used was dons crawdad with a caddis pupa dropper with the hits about 50/50 on each fly. We also did really well with streamers especially right below island one. The color of choice was a black wolly bugger with some gold flash. The traffic was light so it was a great day on the point. Thanks to 11point canoe rental for getting us on the river early and it was good to see Ryan as he has been busy with first born. I hope the action is as good when I will be there in August three times.

All great suggestions, luck is also needed. I have caught my share of big fish that have ended up on Brians site. The water I like for big bows is moderately fast water that has a very deep pool or deep water down stream. I believe in low light times the big boys come out to play in the shallow water to eat crawdads and minnows. I was fishing with my freind Jim the day after Christmas and hooked a monster just below the second island and lost him, never saw him. Bad knott, my bad, so in addition to luck always check your line for nics and dings Good luck

This is in response to Mark, for starters I agree with everything you said other than us looking down our noses. I do not subscribe to that kind of class BS as do my children. Sterotypes hurt our society The reason I release the fish is that I am not a big fish eater and if I do keep the fish it is for my father inlaw for lent. My post is what I would like to see, I am perfectly comfortable sharing the river with anyone. I pick up jars of powerbait and corn between Greer and Turner, so I would like to see rules inforced through that stretch, afterall we are a society of laws. In most cases just being on the point is enough for me
-
Its hard to improve on perfection in regards to the Point, however there are several things I would like to see, better inforcement in the trophy area. I would like to see catch and release from the spring to turner, maybe tougher regs from turner to whitten, and keep the regs as they are from whitten to Riverton. The point is a jem, and we all should pick up clutter that was left there by those who do not appreciate its beauty.

My friend and I fished it today before the rain. We were to rent a canoe from brian, but with the iffy weather we decided to hike in and fish the 1st two islands. The water looked great and could use a shot of rain. We caught fish from about 9 to 2 today, and the rain came about 30 min later. If the flow stays below 1000 it should fish well. I hook a monster at Island two. It was beast and took me into my backing eventially breaking me off, while my bud was coming down to help me. We saw a bunch of eagles and more importantly no one else was on the river. With temps being in the 50's, I would go for it.

Thanks to Brian and the boys at 11 Point Canoe for getting me out on the river on short notice. I suggest you get on the river now, the water was in great shape and the fishing was very good. Had decent luck between island 1 and 2, and fishing real got good below Island 4, the shoal above little hurricane and the rapids at little hurricane. I caught about 60% on Dons Crawdad and the rest on brown wooly bugger stipped through the tail outs. I saw a little color in the trees, and only one other fisherman, which isn't bad at all.

Cane Bluff To Greer Springs 10-02
flyfisherman replied to FishinCricket's topic in Eleven Point River
Nice report, and yes I agree with you, the boys at 11 Point Canoe Rental are the go to guys for information and catering to us fisherman, I hope to get on the river this week, fall is a great time to fish it. I just hope they don't get the rain that is forecasted for this week. -
I fished the trophy area with a good friend yesterday and the only word to describe the fishing was "Epic" We caught fish everywhere we stoped. The river looked great and we saw only 4 other canoes on the river and Ryan of 11 Point canoe was in the McKenzie boat. The usual places fished well, between island 1 and 2, at island 4 my freind hook and released a 4 pounder with witnesses. Little Huricanne shoal fished the best. Stipping olive green wolly buggers with sinking tip worked well and Don's crawdad fished deep. We were using 2 triple AAA to get the flys deep. The river is a but high but clear and very clean, I will be back on the 19th with a customer. I would check with either Brian and Ryan, that know the river well and can give you great advise, and the are good freinds to us fly fisherman

I was able to get back on the river on Tuesday July 1st. I floated it with a good freind from St louis. Despite the higher than average water it was a safe float and the fishing was very good, we caught between us about 25 total fish. Island 4 and the run below it fished very well. We caught quite a few wild fish. My freind lost a huge one at Island three, took him into his back before he busted off. Also the forest service was clearing the right side of the first island, huge logs were floating by us downstream. We had the river to ourselves which is something you can't say about the famous rivers out west. Also most of the action happen before 2pm. I have attached a couple of pictures of the wild bows, this is my first attempt at attaching pictures. I thought we give a freinds at 11point some advertising, they are the best at catering to us fly fisherman

I was able to get out on the Eleven Point and get the dust off the fly rod. I did much better in the morning than afternoon. I caught my biggest fish a 20" at the shoal between the 1st and 2nd island. I hook about 12 and was able to bring 9 of them to hand. I ended the day at the deep hole before Turner with what I thought was the unthinkable fish, which end up to be wild 18 incher, a canoe passing by help me land it and I took a picture of it which I will post or give to Bryan to post. I also let mans 7 year old daughter take a pic with it. The key was a lot of weight, the water is still high, and usual hot spots Hurricane and Mary Decker are tough to fish with the speed of the water and depth. The river is considerably different, I like the changes some new holding areas have been created.

Brian I agree this is complete insanity, I watch the gauge every day and my guess it will be a min of two weeks closer to three weeks to even approach normal levels. I guess if there is a silver lining, there will be new holes and water should be decent through the summer. Did you get the letter for the dates of Cast and Blast 08? Lets hope it is fishable by then. Stay dry

Brian Very nice website, very informative. Looking to fishing with you in September with some customers. How do you like your steak? All the best JK

I fished that section on the 5th and 6th last week. The first day caught 10 and the second day caught 6. All of the fish except one was caught from Island 4 through Mary Decker. The best stretch was the fast water at Hurricane shoal, caught 5 there, all on Dons Crawdads. Mary Decker was a close second. Overall the size was decent with my biggest coming at Island 4. The river was in great shape, the high sky and sunny days din't do me any favors.

March is my favorite time to fish the water. The weather is the only concern as it can be 70 and sunny or 30 and rainy. Brian at 11 point is a great resource. I try to get on the river 7-10 times a year and March and April are my favorite time of year to fish with October a close second. The rive is usally up a bit at that time you might want to consider the cane to greer float. I agree with the previous responce the 11 point is gem of a river good luck

I fished the section from Greer to Turner with my brother inlaw from Boston. I was prepared for a slow day due to the heat and steady rain in the morning. We had a very good day, caught three in the left channel at first island, and several fish at the third and forth island. We had our best success at Hurricane rapids and the run and deep pool/rapids just above Turner. We used mainly prince nymphs and don crawdads and new fly that Bryan showed me with a bit of red on its tail. We caught and released about 25 trout with the largest being about 16" we also caught 4 smallies and what I thought was throphy a 3 pound sucker I snagged. Other than the rain an off color water a very enjoyable day

Great Fish there Brian, I will see you on the 29th. John Kern
