  1. Buffalo are on my list of fish I really want to catch... haven't been able to locate any accessible to me around here... but there is some good info on buffalo on This blog (along with basically all other rough fish too) It's been very helpful to me and I'm sure you'd think so too. Tons of creative rough fishin' flies...
  2. Nice!! The first one to hand is so rewarding! I wish I would have kept track of how many fruitless hours it took before I finally brought one to hand. I'd probably be embarrassed by the # if I actually knew it. 3 fish to hand... that's well on your way to a carp addiction! Nice work! Caught a small carp today.... but the catch of the day was definitely this ugly beast...
  3. That 2nd ones a great channel cat! Those fly's are lookin' solid too... always nice to throw versatile and durable flies
  4. Thanks! Caught this one in Oklahoma (below the dam at Lake Overholser in OKC). I was actually throwin' a rope fly trying to tangle up with some of the BIG longnose gar surfacing all around... Heard something that sounded like someone wading in behind me. Turned around and saw it. Hands started shaking instantly and had a hard time tying on a rusty orange egan's headstand. Took 5 casts, but he finally sipped it in. Good luck on the meramec! -ward
  5. I hate for my first post in the fly fishing section to be a hero-shot, but I was really pumped about this one and thought I'd share it with you... Check out this flathead on the fly... guessing it was 38in and ~30lb!! Was fishing alone and the only person around only spoke spanish so I had a hard time communicating with him to take the picture... this is the only one that turned out!!
  6. Thanks for the welcome! I'm sad to say I haven't fished Taney yet... It's near the top of my wish list though. My only MO fishin' has been at the roaring river state park on a super crowded weekend. I was in joplin for business and was trying to choose between taney, roaring river, and crane creek. Think I made the wrong choice... Most of my "ozarks" experience has been on the white/norfork.
  7. Thought I'd give a quick intro and say hi to all of you on the board before I start posting! My name is Ward and I'm from the OKC area. Been fly fishing for about 10yrs now and have been seriously addicted for the past few years. I love fishin' the ozarks, and althought I don't get to travel a ton to fish, I love when I get the chance to fish AR or MO. I'm sure most of my posts will be in the fly fishing section, but I'm excited to learn from all of you ozark anglers -- Ward W
