  1. Do you still have the reels?
  2. For just a point of reference. I was down at the Simm Watts area on Saturday. I got there about 5 pm. The water was definitely too high to wade and it was real swift. I looked at the schedule for that time period and it said a "1". After I was there for about an hour, the water started dropping, from the chart, they shut it down. Hope this helps.
  3. I am sure that I stayed at the Suite 16 Motel and am sure that we paid $40 for one night on a Monday night. I have stayed at Marval since they changed management and they are very expensive. For the price, I believe it is a good deal. Two beds and a shower.
  4. I stayed at the the Suite 16 Motel the Monday after the 4th of July weekend and the price for one night was $40. That was for three adults and one child. it wasn't five star accommodations but it was a place to sleep.
  5. There are a couple of hotels in Gore. I have stayed in one. It is called Suite 16 Motel. It is right next to Gambino's Pizza in Gore. It was about $40 per night. Nice and clean. Not a lot of extras, but a place to sleep. They do have a fridge in the room. There is another one but I can't remember the name.
  6. Thanks for the help. I looked on several fly shop sites and didn't find the ones you described. I may have to start learning to tie flies myself.
  7. If you don't mind me asking, where do you get your flies or do you tie them? Is the soft hackle all three colors in one or are they soft hackles in each individual color? thanks
  8. Sounds like you had a good day yesterday. I went on Saturday around 5 pm. Used a purple san juan worm. caught 2 and had lots of bites. kind of slow but a nice evening. The river was shutting down when I got there and the trout were jumping everywhere.
  9. I would guess in the range of 3 - 4 lbs? Did you catch anymore? I have tried the woolly buggar but have not had any luck. Maybe it was the way I was fishing it? Any advice?
  10. Zach, can you tell me where is the place you refer to? From the Watts area, is it upstream from the stocking tube? I have become quite comfortable with the strike indicator but would like to learn to fish without one. Some more advise would be appreciated. Thanks John
  11. If any of you all are interested, Tulsa Flyfishers.org is a wealth of information too. A few weeks ago, they had a clean-up day at the LI. It was featured in the tulsa world. Great group of people. Also, I have found a online store that has great prices on flies and other essentials. It is Yagers.com.
  12. I have already done that I bought flyfishing stuff on ebay and numerous other places. It is very addictive. Time to slow down though and enjoy the sport. One thing I have noticed is that flyfishermen are considerably different than the rest of the fishing world. They seem to be very apt to help someone and even tell them what they are biting on and even willing to share there spot. It has really been more than I expected and feel very lucky to have happened into the sport.
  13. I wanted to let y'all know that I went fly fishing on the LI on Sunday afternoon. I had a wonderful day. I caught over 20 small trout on a #18 red zebra midge and a copper john. It was exciting. The most fun I have had fishing. Thanks for the advice on watching "Fly fishing for Trout" by Gary Borger. Lots of great info. Tight Lines.
  14. Thanks for the help. I will certainly watch the videos on You Tube.
  15. Thanks for the help "Daddy-O'. I know that the higher the number the smaller the fly. I have learned the basics of fly fishing such as how to cast and other basics. My biggest problem is not knowing which flies to use and how to fish them.
  16. Being new to the sport, I am hoping that this forum will give me some much needed advice. I have fished the lower Illinois for a couple of months now and have yet to catch anything. Maybe I am using the wrong flies. I have read quite a bit on here and realize right off that the sizes that I have been using are way too big. Of course I don't know what kind of flies I need as I am not a tier either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
