I've kayaked from the gravel company down to Gore landing during low water. Be sure and check the map on the area about 1/2 mile up from Gore landing. There are several branches and I took a dead end and had to back track. I'm sure if there was flow it would've been easy to tell which way to go.
I've also launched my Gheenoe & kayaks at Marvel's and paddled up stream over a mile during no/low flow conditions. We'd have to get out at some of the shoals and drag a bit but nothing to hard. After the water started picking up we'd turn around and float back down.
Good way to get to areas with less fishing pressure.
Took this photo at Bass Pro while on lunch break. He kept dunking his head down so I tried to get him right when he raised it back up so the water would still be running off. I was using a D5100 with a 300mm lens. F5.6, 1/1250, ISO 640
I've been using the sinapore twist for a few months and they have been working out really good for me. I've made them with 2 lb tippet mat'l all the way up to 20 andes mono for striper fishing.
Not sure if this link will work? One of the striper I caught above Marvel's last Saturday.

I was over a deep hole in my kayak and bringing a smaller 18" striper to hand. As I leaned over prepairing to lip him a 25+ lbr followed him up and side swiped him while he was about a foot under the surface. My heart rate increased dramatically. Needless to say I didn't mess around with taking a pic of the smaller one. I wanted my bait back in the water.
Didn't get down to the river until about noon. Caught a few smaller stripers up to about 7 lbs. All caught sub-surface. Couldn't get a top water bite. They started releasing 1800 cfs around 3:30 and the striper were more actively running the shad to the surface for about the first 45 min.
I'll be going down Sat morning early. I'll be at Marvel's with some friends. We are going to go after some striper out of our kayaks between Marvel's and Gore landing...hopefilly.
There is a place on the west bank about 1/4 mile below the 44 bridge that is good for carp fishing. There are rock shelfs and boulders all around pools that hold a lot of carp. It's easy to spot and stalk them from the higher vantage point. I found it while yakin one day last summer and had a ball.
I work just around the corner from there and fish it quite regularly. (Twice this week) It's a nice way to spend a lunch hour.
The big bass are on their beds and really hard to catch right now but the sun fish are active. I've seen several really nice bass jumping out of the water after the paired up red damsel flies this week.
Sometimes later in the summer the moss gets so bad if I don't hook them along the edge they get down in the moss and I loose them on the really light gear I use.
Went exploring some of the feeder creeks and found some really cool spots on Beach Creek.
Eagle Creek down on 259
After checking out Sunday we went down to check out Panther Creek below Smithville. We found the access road and made our way down to the camping area. The road ended in a flooded area and we could see the road reemerging on the other side. I did get a phone number off a sign to call for more information about the area.
We stopped at Carl Albert Lake for a few minutes to catch some frisky little bass throwing tiny bett’s poppers on a 2 wt fly rod. We was catching them in the lily pads. It was a cool little lake that will defiantly stop at again on the way by.
We did some bank fishing and hiking until mid-morning Saturday.
When fishing is slow I take pix of my gear...
Craw Jig
When the water dropped enough I threw in my yaks and went looking for the smallies. Several miles upstream from the low water bridge I found a nice shelf with a few big rocks below. I caught a few 12”-13” fatties before moving on to explore other areas.
Little Fatty
May be a crawdad or two in there?
I finally checked the Upper Mountain Fork off my float bucket list. I shared a cabin with my son and a few family members for 4 days/3 nights. The cabin was right on the river just upstream from the low water crossing on Beachton Rd.
Water was high enough that we had to go through Hatfield Arkansas to get to the cabin. By Saturday morning the bridge was dry again.
My bedroom view
I read the post again...It was JC heading down there...sorry for the confusion.
FYI; I'm going to post up a report in the Broken Bow section about our trip to the UMF last weekend.
