  1. The guy's I saw were not walking. They were standing in one spot, kicking at the bottom while the other guy dropped a fly at their feet. Big diffrence. They took turns doing this. To me that is the diffrence. So may be more discrete about it, but these guy's were not trying to hide it.
  2. Hey, where does everyone go when you can't fish taneycomo? I have tried to think of a few places. Been to Roaring River and fished the fly only area. It was ok, but don't know of many places you can wade and fly fish. I live in Spokane, so the James is close. But not alot of places to wade. The Finley has limited access. Haven't been to Flat Creek. Looks like some good water to wade off EE between Cape Fair and Jenkins. What do you guy's do when the water is unfishable on Taney?
  3. I saw the same thing. I wasn't fishing, just drove down by the parking area, walked down to the #1 outlet. The dads would kick and stir the water while the boys would flip their lures at the fathers feet. When the boys caught a fish they in turn would do the same thing for the dads. I know fishing that day was tough, dead calm wind and no water running. What a thing to teach your kids. Same people that teach their kids to shoot deer from the road. Or do what ever it takes to make a kill or catch a fish. Well that is the next generation comming on. Just hope one day they realize is't more than catching or killing that makes the outdoors special.
  4. Well the shock gum worked well. Neat stuff, it streches and returns to the original length. But I realy think I had some bad tippet all along. I triesd some fresh Orvis 6X Sunday and fished all day with no problems. I think the fluorocarbon is very sensitive to heat. I keep all my equipment in my work truck so I can fish after work. I try to keep it out of the direct sun, crack the windows, but I guess it's not enough. But, the shock gum will help with light tippets. I'm glad I found out about it. Thanks for all the advice.
  5. Went to Back Country Outfitters today, got the Shock Gum, it will be Sunday before I can try it out. If it works it will be a good deal. $4.00 for 25', not bad. I can give a full report after Sunday.
  6. Well the triple surgeons knot and my 4wt rod was much better. I didnn't try any 7X but the 6X was fine. I am going to try the shock cord on my 6wt rod. I don't think my 6wt is too fast action. It's a CV2 9' 3 piece, it realy is a good feeling rod. I do like using it for wooleys and such. But all good advice from you guy's. This is such a good web site. I realy appreciate the help from everyone.
  7. The hook set may be part of my problem. Bass fished for 20 years. Old habits die hard. I will try the triple knot tomorrow with my 4 wt. rod. I guess you can find the shock cord at about any fly shop? I will look for some the next time I'm in. Thanks a bunch. I will put it to the test tomorrow.
  8. Hey guy's, I'm still new to the fly fishing, started in February, but I am having a heck of a time with 6X and 7X tipet. This is my set up. I use either a 9' 6 wt. White River rod from Bass Pro or a 9' 4 wt. Sage Launch. Both have Orvis braided leaders that I attach the tipet to with a surgeons loop. I have had trouble when a fish takes the fly I raise the rod and break the tipet at the knot on hte leader. All I get back is the loop. the line breaks right at the knot. I an useing either Rio or Orvis flurocarbon and wet the knot before I chench it down. It seems like it has just started now the hot weather is hear. Any suggestions?
  9. Had a great time on Northfork last weekend. Some of the best loking trout water I have ever seen. Started in the trophy area, caught several including my first Brook Trout. Saturday afternoon fished around the dam area, they must have stocked it hevily for the kids fishing durby. My buddy and I must have caught 30-35 each before they started running water about 3pm. It may be a while but I am already looking forward to going back.
  10. Camera is packed, and thanks for the info on fly sizes. We should be leaving Branson about 5. Have a camp site at Dam Quary area. Should be a great weekend to fish.
  11. Thanks guy's. We are taking a small motor so we can rent a boat if need be. I'm realy looking forward to the trip.
