  1. my last outing I had success with crankbaits (believe it or not!) A wiggle wart and blue gill colored bandit did best. A chartreuse spinnerbait works well too. The water is really thick with algae from the heat so just about anything bright and flashy should do. I suggest the area over by the lake house where it transitions to river. They seem to be away from the banks
  2. thanks for the tips. I may end up there then
  3. that's fine, I'm just looking for a back-up to there. I failed to mention that I'll have kids with me, so I ask about Indian point because I think they have a playground there for when they're done fishing after 10 minutes I've never been to TR other than the visitor center by the darn, and only fished there for a bit. Is the shore on Indian point near deep waters too? We'll be going during the week so hopefully there won't be crowds when it's 100+
  4. thanks for the suggestion, I may try that what about Indian point? Would that be a better choice? I'm coming from Ozark, looking for a good spot
  5. just wondering, I have out of towners that are interested in doing some bank fishing. We're talking perch and crappies for the most part. I've never been over to Kimberling City and wanted to check it out. Is there any decent bank fishing over there? I've tried by the visitor center at the darn, am I better off going there instead? I know the subject has been brought up before on bank fishing, but just wondering what people think with the heat - other than staying home
  6. it could very well be that the bigger SM want a bigger lure with this heat
  7. i think I know where you mean. You're saying to the left of the park lodge put-in? I tried right of the lodge in the main lake and like you said, it wasn't deep there
  8. does anyone know where the deeper spots are in Springfield lake? I went out this weekend and caught a few, but I figure with the heat, that they would be deep.
  9. I'd suggest going early in the morning or at sunset and start with a small topwater popper. If that doesn't work, try a small white spinnerbait, then go to a teeny crankbait. Last resort is plastics which is slow for my taste. I was doing well last weekend on the James with a weightless 5inch dark green worm. Just throw it in the shade along shore in the deeper sections and slowly work it back, pausing occasionally. They'll hit it when it's paused when they don't feel like chasing anything.
  10. is that to say they are moving to the river section under the freeways? I can never pattern Springfield lake for some reason.
  11. I'll answer my own questions, I went to the bridge Sat morning. It is a shallow section under the bridge but has a good size pool above it. Caught plenty of goggle eyes on a floating worm, letting it sink slowly and twitching it. Also got a few bass on a small white spinnerbait. Nothing going on crankbaits though. Several gar in this area too. Seems like a lot of gar north of Shelvin, like they've taken over. Only other issue is the annoyance of cows in this section
  12. How is that Nelson Mill road bridge? Easy to access or do you have to blaze a trail? Also, how is the water going upstream - is this a very shallow section?
  13. Randy is the authority on that. I haven't been there many times, but there is a nice pool upstream from Shelvin. Not too far.
  14. you might want to try the James around Shelvin access. It gets shallow around there. Also, on the Finley, park by the 14 bridge, where the Jeep dealer used to be. There's a trail along there that will lead to shallower sections past the pool that's under the 14. From there you can go down stream quite a ways with few deep pools, probably until you get near Riverdale. I was thinking of hitting that section this weekend actually
  15. yeah I was wondering if there was a path around there like that. I've always parked under the bridge but it sounds like they would have barricades there. But, there is a house on the gravel road so they'd have to keep the small dirt road open. So I take it your saying there's a trail on the SE side of 125. Never did much exploring over there, but I'll check it out I guess where there's a will, there's a way. we'll see
  16. anyone know of any access then to Linden lake? or is that going to be totally closed off now? Is there any parking down Lindenlure drive or is that restricted Linden lake is my fav spot. It's a perfect spot for my inflatable and is nice and secluded in the mornings. I've never gotten skunked there
  17. http://www.ky3.com/n...cement-20110624,0,2175508.story looks like you'll still be able to access the river, but not cross over the spillway to the lake. Wonder if there will still be parking there
  18. yes, unless you want to fish more of the lake. You'd probably do better starting from the lake house, but under the 65 is closest to where it goes back into a river. Tons of blue gill under the 65 last weekend
  19. just south of where Riverside Inn used to be has some deep water. Someone put a wooden dock over by where the clearing is for a swing. Pretty cool to get out and fish from it.
  20. http://www.rapala-pro-fishing.com/item/183560_Rebel_Fishing_Rebel_F91-45V_Tenny_Wee-R.aspx this little crank does well in clear water. I use it often in the Finley
  21. yeah I like to get out on that rock ramp at the bend and usually get a few there. It seems to get really shallow up from there, I haven't gone much further up. I try to keep quiet, I go there early mornings on the weekends and don't want to disturb the locals. congrats on the LM
  22. heat of the day does take its toll on numbers. Does for me anyways. No fish chasing on small cranks or spinners? My worm is the 4 inch brown cut tail worm that BPS makes. Plenty of fleck in it, never fails me. I try to hit it early in the morning with a topwater or rapala jointed minnow that floats. Plus you won't get as many hang-ups unless you catch the trees
  23. I think from the 14 to 1/2 way between the 65 and Riverdale would be a lot of dragging. Probably not much good fishing until you got closer to Riverdale
  24. haven't been by in a long time, but does anyone know if Riverdale is still locked down like fort Knox? Anyplace to park and fish there? If not, anyone know of a spot in that area?
  25. went above Linden with an inflatable. Like mentioned, the river looks a lot different now . There's an island that was up the way past the houses that's totally gone now I only caught 2 smallies in 3 hours of trying. I tried everything from topwater to plastics, it just wasn't good. I wonder if the big LM's got pushed downstream now. Caught 1 on a small brown spinnerbait and the other on a crankbait. Not much sign off life there either, few fish jumps and I was there early at 7am.
