Regulations are tough enough to write to the satisfaction of all those involved, even those who pass the regulation. I think the "spirit" of the law would be lost in the court system. If judge #1 is a fly fisherman you might get a different ruling than from one who has no interest in fishing whatsoever and is a supporter of PETA. "Traditional fly-tying materials" should be more defined such as maybe "naturally occuring materials such as feathers and fur, plus any thread, tinsel, wire, yarn, chenille..." The list would be pretty long... Now... where do you draw the line? Is "gummy minnow" material acceptable? In my humble opinion, I think it would open up a big can of worms... no pun intended... But I'm anxious to get MDC's take on this...

I'm still planning to be there... But I wonder if we should plan another date as well a little later... for those who are spending time with the kids...

Welcome to the forum... You left Ol' Al Crise down in the FW area, didn't you?...

I met up with Leonard (Night Angler) at 8am at Outlet 1 for some fishing. He was almost ready when I got there, so he headed down to the chute while I finished tuggin' my boots on. Two units running, but not much action at the chute. We did notice pellets coming through and the fish were active. About 9, we noticed the water going down. I had been watching fish across the water midging almost the whole time, so as the water went down, we moved out in the current. After we both tried several diffrent flies, I heard that familiar "splosh" and looked over to see Leonard bringing in the first fish. He came over, blindfolded me, tied one on my tippet, and we went back to work hauling in fish. All nice fiesty 'Bows with one Brown thrown in for me. One of the Rainbows went over 16 inches, the rest were in the 12-14 inch range. Leonard went back to the outlet trying to nail one of the big boys lined up for breakfast and I noticed my fly had stopped working. Well, the 16 inch fish had done the fly in. I tried a couple more patterns, landed a few more, but nothing like the action before. I was getting cold and tired (dang cold water to my chest and wind...) so I went over to talk a bit with Leonard and he said he was going down to Outlet 2. I walked up to the truck, rested a bit, and joined him down there. He got into fish there and we worked our way down to the rebar. We both had to leave around 2pm... Didn't keep count, but we both had between 20-25 each or so... A good morning's fishing for sure... Oh... the secret fly? Leonard calls it a TNS....

WalMart in Nixa has it... Just got a bottle a couple nights ago... But you have to be 18 to buy it... And the girl that checked me out didn't even card me!!!! I recommend the precision tip or brush on bottle. Anyone tried the gel type for tying?

I KNOW... I KNOW!!!!! LEMME GUESS!!! A PINE SQUIRREL SCULPIN!!!! WHUD I WIN?! OK... I'm gonna reveal a bit of a secret here that MIGHT help... When you run the thread back up the hook before "hackling" the strip, use a bit of dubbing (I like a pale yellow to mimmick the belly of a sculpin) and put a bit of superglue on that. Seems to hold the strip better. At least for me... And Ronnie is spot on about combing after you whip finish. Mine look really funky before I do that... But I've become a pine squirrel coiffeur!

OK... Andy and Tom have pretty much covered it... and it goes back to Phil's suggestion... I will vouch for Andy's idea about car chargers. I use to plug my phone in every time I got in the truck..... no more... my battery went bad within a couple of months. Spend the money for a new battery or listen to the wife b... uh... complain... I would fork over the bucks.... it'll be worth it... One more on NiCd batteries. (maybe Tom said this...) Let the battery go as far down as you dare... until the phone starts beeping... before you recharge. Some home chargers will deplete the battery before charging, but many do not. Charging a "dead" NiCd will last much longer than if you charge it at "half down" or "two bars".... That goes for drills, drivers, iPods, and any other device running on NiCd's....

Bass Pro taking over the Pryamid in Memphis
Terry Beeson replied to Danoinark's topic in General Angling Discussion
Yep... they had the "plans" for that in the Jonesboro and Memphis papers over a year ago, but I think there was a "hitch in their get-along" that has been resolved. They just as well do something with it... Alltel right beside Beale Street has taken anything done formerly in the Pyramid... It was big, ugly, and the acoustics were horrible anyway... Can't wait to see the giant fishing rod sticking out of the side of the building and into the Mississippi River.... -
Hey John, as you may have seen on Phil's board... My GRANDfather was Mr. Beeson... My dad was not much for formalities just as are you and I... Larry... Yes... If he gets into a "biggun" you will need a big net...

Yeah... tie any fly to the end of the tippet, flip it out there, and hang on!!!.... That's not far from the truth. I've not seen many flies that do not work on DRC. Having said that, I would probably say smaller nymph patterns and SJWs work well. I know one rig I've had kids use is a red SJW with an egg colored plastic bead about 6-8 inches above it. One sweet part of DRC is walking down the hatchery fence and "sighting" those big pigs. You'll drool and wish you were 13 again yourself.... But... I will defer better techniques and experience on DRC to my friend, Mr Berry for more on this... Good luck and take lots of pictures and post them here!!!

Ya'll ain't from 'round here, 're ya boy... "Goggle-eye" is one of the names for the Warmouth aka Stump Knocker... Similar to a Rock Bass (they are different species) and some people will refer to Rock Bass as Goggle-eye (I've done that myself.) Big characteristic that tells you it's a Goggle-eye or Rock Bass - a "red eye"... not to be confused with a Redear sunfish. The red eye is the color of the eyes of the fish. In other words, it's a fish... Welcome to the forum....

I'll preface this with one of my dad's sayings... "I'm talkin' when I ought to be listenin'..." With that said, I'm willing to bet (though I don't KNOW) that his parents may have been warned at some point, but took a defensive "nope... not MY kid" attitude. Plus, without knowing the particulars, there could be some cultural issues. Regardless, the young man is responsible for his own actions and as a society, we seem to have become oblivious to that fact... Just my opinion... for what it's worth... and that ain't much...

Dano... excellent point.... But I will say that a few years back, I was walking an hour a day 4-5 days a week. One day a girl at work was taking BPs and I asked her to take mine. My BP was fine, but she commented that I had a "runner's heartbeat." My heart rate was 40 bpm... If I kept that up, I'd live to be 150!!!

Yes, welcome to the insanity!!! And we look forward to all the posts of the photos you are taking... By the way... you HAVE posted a bunch for us already... right?
