  1. Cool, so would there still be a decent number of fish down that far from the park in the summer?
  2. Really, perfect for a 2wt? Even below the park? We are staying at Mikes Roaring River Hideaway at 86 and FR2260, so the majority of my fishing would be below the park. I am purchasing a new rod in about two weeks and I am debating whether a 3 or 4 wt since I chase gills in the weeds more than I do trout, but am wondering what rod length and line wt you all would recommend.
  3. We will be down there to do some camping/ fishing in this time frame. Probably getting there actually on June 29 late evening...do some fishing below the park, then on the 30th and 1st, in the park. I will have my new 2wt 7' rod then. I am so excited to get back down there, it has been more than a year. If anyone wants to get together for some fishing, either let me know on here, or you can PM me for my cell # and give us a call around then. Also, Tim, if I swing by, can you show me some accesses on the river below the park? Thanks in advance, hope to meet some of you there.
  4. Just because you leave MO, does not mean you must leave this forum... I too am totally self taught. I wish I knew what I did wrong (except my inability to tie a nail knot worth a darn). Have caught more fish on the fly rod with a 3wt, and am getting a 2wt in three weeks to catch those trout, and bluegills!
  5. Some of these Missouri trout are just gorgeous. You could not paint a better trout!
  6. Wow, I am excited. All I need to do is convince the missus to move down around Springfield, and I will be set!
  7. That would work. Let's set a date and have Phil sticky this.
  8. Good to know there are still some nice fish in Crane. I need to get down there to fish it. Would you say a 3wt is sufficient? I aim to grab a 3wt outfit pretty quick for the summer trout season
  9. I cry everytime I fill up my three cylinder daily commuter. $27 for a GEO METRO to run back and forth to work. We drive less normally. She works at home, that saves $100+ per month, but I still burn that running to ponds and things fishing. No AC in cars, etc...slow down, accelerate slower, do all of the smart things.
  10. Sounds like there is a need for an OAF meeting at Capps in a few months......... Hopefully after I get the 1wt home and christen it with a few gills on dries.
  11. The 1wt will be great especially for bluegill and for the trout down at RR. You can catch surprisingly large fish on light rods if you play them right. Low rod angle, keep them fighting the reel and the butt of the rod. Let the tip do its job! It is nice to see someone else on here who knows about the UL aspect of fly fishing.
  12. Anyone else use ultralight or light fly tackle? I am talking 000-2wt rods and lines? If so, what do you use, and where do you use it? I had a 3wt and sold it, but am now paying on an Orvis 1wt with reel and line. I am psyched to take it to Roaring River and use some small midge dries and some zebra midges and the like. Let's discuss this...also, go to www.byrdultrafly.com if you have any questions.
  13. No, I mean THE Tim's in Cassville
  14. I am absolutely tired of this all. I drive a 1997 Geo Metro to and from work (8.5 miles each way). I have to spend $30 to fill it up now. $30 FOR A GEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I agree that everything is so corrupt anymore. You realize the president will not do anything, neither will Congress as they are all getting filthy effing rich from the gas prices being this high! We have no way around this except to use A LOT less...move closer to work, work from home, etc...
  15. Same guy, complete waste of oxygen! I honestly wish people would realize what they are perceived as and take into consideration that will affect their business. He is a person devoid of a human bone in his body. he does not understand why someone would get an Orvis Clearwater ($149) instead of fish bamboo or get the Zero Gravity ($645). When you bring up the price, he says, we offer layaway. Wanda is the only reason I am putting my new rod and reel on layaway. 8'1wt Orvis Trident TLS with a Battenkill 3/4 and a WF1F Wonderline or WF1F Silver Label. I am pretty psyched, but would rather drive to Tim's and spend the $40 on gas to get there than speak to this imbecile.
  16. $3.29 in Independence right now. We won't be doing any travelling!
  17. People have no respect for each other anymore. It irks me to no end. Sorry for your loss!
  18. All cell phones in the last 4 years run on Li-Ion batteries. NiCd were on the phones around 2000. Li-Ion does not develop a memory, and also it maintains a charge longer than Ni-Cd or NiMH does. So in all honesty, the best way to get around the lack of battery life is to get a new one, and do not use the car charger unless it is absolutely necessary.
  19. Wow, amazing stories taxidermist! I would love to see these fish, as well as any of the stripers you have mounted!
  20. Well, if the measurements are accurate, that is a true monster!
  21. Thanks Doug. I appreciate it!
  22. So, epoxy resin? Ok. That makes sense to me! Thanks CC.
  23. ok, the cell phone batteries only have a shelf life (under normal usage of being charged at home, and talked on till they are dead) of about 12 months before they start to really lose their life. I have worked in the cellular field for going on 4 years and see this every day (including the wife's old phone). The home charger cannot and will not deplete the battery. It has overcharge protection built into the little box that plugs into the wall. (Ever taken one of those apart? Resistors and capacitors galore) If it is always charged on a DC charger, therein lies the issue here. Car chargers are fast chargers, therefore over using the lithium-ion chemicals and causing degradation in their performance. Use the car charger as little as possible to ensure the longest possible life of your battery. hope I have shed some light on this issue for you!
  24. Have not thought of that, good idea though...will give it some thought! Thanks.
  25. No it is an IM6 graphite Redington (I bought another after selling one) Crosswater rod. It is the butt section of the rod, therefore not flexing much if at all. I used a dab of nail hardener and it appears to have somewhat worked. If it does not work, I guess I will have to get my fiberglass outfit sooner that I had thought I would! So, yes, that is all it is. Thanks guys!
