  1. I will examine it right now...and, the verdict is...it is just the finish. Is there anything I can put on that to keep it from worsening? nail polish, super glue, what is a possibility?
  2. Has anyone else tried streamers? I caught a 13" and 2 6" white crappie today from the pond around the corner on a #8 Black Nose Dace and using short fast strips on a steady retrieve. They would just barely tap the fly and you had to watch the end of your line to get the strikes, but when you did, they fought almost like a bull gill! It was fun. On top of crappie, you will catch bluegill, bass, and any other species swimming in the lake, river or pond you are fishing.
  3. Hello, I just came back from tearing up the bluegill, bass and crappie here and noticed a chip in the paint on my IM6 graphite rod and am wondering if that will adversely affect the way the rod performs. I was throwing streamers for these fish, and bear in mind, there are some 5+# bass in this pond. Thank you in advance for helping me out here!
  4. Cool, does anyone else who frequents RS think that a lot of people on it are tackle snobs, or is that just my perception? I hate to single people out, but it makes me laugh when someone posts about getting a new $50 reel and they get the comments back to them saying things like "Daiwa Sol, or Daiwa Tierra." Those reels cost at least twice what the $50 reel costs (maybe the Tierra is a little cheaper). I guess I am the only person who that irritates. Sorry.
  5. Dano, you have a PM!
  6. Open all year would work for me if it helps slow or stop the infestations in our most prized rivers.
  7. It would be nice to see all smallmouth regs on the streams in question to become C&R, and keep up to fifty spots. That is a little rash, but it might actually help, and you could get a decent fish fry from 50 spots of any size.
  8. Al, I understand the hurt, but fisheries folks stock what they think will work, where they think it will work under most circumstances, right? Therefore, unless we pool our resources and get together to speak to the state about the loss of the greatest NATURALLY occurring fish in our state, they will likely not do too much about the infestations. If you wanted to do something, I would be more than happy to help in any way possible.
  9. Well, I am still astounded here, and I will say that I wish I had the problem with having spots and smallies...nope, I have the problem of catching largemouth in our streams and no variety of bass. Consider yourselves lucky!
  10. Thanks Phil, thanks Doug. No bass activity...odd for a MO river.
  11. Why was it moved? That is a completely different river than the Black. The Blackwater is southeast of KC about 40 miles and I was wondering if anyone had fished it. It and the Lamine converge and then run to the Missouri river.
  12. I would like to hear some gear recommendations including rod length, action, reel size, line size and lures for these crazy strong fish. I would be able to chase these fish at numerous places in MO, as well as in KS. Thank you in advance.
  13. Has anyone fished it? I am curious what species of bass would be in this river. Apparently there are spots in the Lamine, and these two rivers join before hitting the Mo. There are smallies in the upper tribs of the Lamine also, so I really have no idea. I am just wondering if any of you have fished it before and how you did.
  14. Cool! That works for me!
  15. Well, I might have been convinced to try out a 7wt rod for all of my warmwater fly fishing, smallies, lmb, hybrid stripers, all of it. It can throw everything with a good WF7F line and a sink tip type II I could fish everywhere in the state for all of these species and be relatively successful! Now, what would you recommend as the necessary flies to catch bass from ponds?
  16. Al, I am astounded at the amount of information you have to share! Each time I read a post by you, it gets more and more impressive. Like hank said, please publish this information in a book on smallmouth bass fishing in the Ozarks. (hint hint). I feel that if more people on here would read what you have to say about conservation, as well as maintenance of a resource, that we would benefit as a whole from a much better fishery as a whole as a state (if that makes sense).
  17. Wow, sounds to me like I need to be checking out a 7 or 8wt, and get into some big hybrids here locally too! Thanks a million!
  18. This must be what is happened to RS.com today! I cannot get on there to save my life!
  19. Wow, where if I may ask is the Maries? That sounds like a fun trip to make.
  20. Ok, dumb question here. Where is the PDT river below the lake located? I know it is below the lake...har har har. I am asking because I would be interested in trying some smallie fishing on it in the near future. Please let me know.
  21. Ok, when it comes to Ozark smallies, I would go with Al's word about them. He has been fishing them A LOT longer than most people on this board have been alive. In that time, like he said, the Ozark streams capability for growing a huge amount of 5# smallmouth is unrealistic. So therefore, if you wish to make these claims on size, please show me where, so I can call ESPN to film a video and tell everyone where it is at. I think everyone in America would like to know a place to catch lots of 5#ers in a day on one river that is heavily travelled both by canoe, as well as on foot.
  22. I cannot get into the forums on RS this morning for some reason. That site is so information heavy, I have to take it in short bursts. Everyone is very knowledgeable, well except the people like me, but that's another story.
  23. Thanks Dan! I will try that, just need to get a ML rod. I am shopping for a setup for pond bass, and this made the decision easier! Thanks a million.
  24. I have a pond about thirty seconds from the house chock full of largemouth from 6" up to about 5#+. I want to try fly rod bassin, but do not know where to start. Would a 7WT be sufficient for this? Also, what would you use for flies? If I could, just have a general selection of flies for ponds, small lakes, and streams, as well as fishing tips...THANK YOU from a pseudo-newbie to this! I appreciate it
  25. Well, I was going to try some 1/16 oz Bitsy Bugs with a trailer, as well as some 1/16 oz Panther Martins along structure when I get free enough to go. In the mean time, I will be chasing largemouth on the Little Blue in Kansas City.
