  1. Guys, Sorry about the delay in shipping the flies, I've had a hectic last month and a half with family issues. I will be shipping the flies this weekend, however if you would be so kind as to PM me your addresses I would appreciate it, as some of the envelopes have been lost. Again I'm sorry about the delay, but the flies are here and ready. I appreciate your understanding. tf
  2. Glad that opinion of fish didn't overtake Crane in the 1880's, Drew, or we would be missing out on a real jewel. Also, I think Lilley might be singing a different tune if the roles were reversed, and Taney had a fabulous trout stream, but big browns in a "put and take" area next to the outlets. What I cannot get here is how we are missing on the idea of conservation, for Christ’s sake it's in the MDC's freaking name. Look, less stocking and more regulations for C&R with an appropriate amount of enforcement equals less cost on MDC. Somehow that idea either offends Missouri tax payers, or we put this "exotic/non-native" stamp on them and ignore the fact that people do buy out of state tags for trout, not so much for smallmouth or largemouth, but for trout, either stocked or wild. I do, and I know a few friends who specifically buy out of state permits only for trout in streams that are either in the Blue ribbons or red ribbon areas. Trout are a breadwinner for the MDC in the fishing department, and brown trout are a real treat, get over it as it does not mean other species are less worthy of protection. For some reason guys on here act like we can't set rules that make sense for all species without sacrificing their favorite species or honey hole, it can be done, but it takes some changes. IT's like the difference between a gas guzzling SUV and a Chevy Cruz, one may not be so cool to drive but the idea of driving one makes a heck of a lot more sense than driving the other. I've been a big critic of the MDC, especially with their management of the white ribbon areas, but to see the white ribbon regulations effect a blue ribbon stream is a freaking disgrace and waste of taxpayer money.
  3. Don't know how much this will help, but check out the attatchments. I photoscreened a map from Google with the GPS coordinates. I have a little Garmin, and I'm planning on going down there within the next week. I think I might try to post something at the end of the public land there. Crane.doc End public property crane below RR Bridge.doc
  4. It's hard to tell what's going on with the limited information, but it does raise a few eyebrows. I agree with a lot of guys on here that brown trout need a lower possession limit, say one per day and total possession limit of two.
  5. Look, the main thing is presentation with these fish. I took my lumps with them, learned from it and now I catch a fish just about everytime I go. Don't wade, walk slow and watch. You'll get more fish by doing this alone. I always use a three or a four weight, and 6x to 5x. I bet you could get by with heavier line, but to me the flies drag less with lighter line(but that is just my experience). The main thing is accuracy on your casts, meaning that you don't line them. No quick or magic cure, just a learning curve. Good luck. Next week I'm heading down, should be some fun.
  6. Well guys, we're about two weeks over the deadline. We have 4 dozen in, and mine makes 5. So here's the deal, I'm down at RR this weekend and I get back Monday night. I'm dividing them up on tuesday, if they're not in by then, or you haven't pm'd me that you are shipping them before then, well I guess I can only say sorry, but this swap has been more than patient.
  7. Nice notice of our legal system and burden of proof. He doesn't have to prove anything wise guy, the prosecution will have to prove that he either took or atempted to take paddlefish within the meaning of the law and beyond a reasonable doubt. And to me it all depends on what "take" means. You would have to think that it means to permanently remove and possess a paddlefish, otherwise everytime you put a hook in water with paddlefish in the vicinity you could be "attempting to take" a paddle fish merely because you have a hook in the water and there are paddlefish in the water. I do wonder if the prosecution has to prove intent, if so it would be difficult becuase you would have to prove that at the time he hooked into a paddlefish it was his conscious desire to hook a paddlefish. However, I don't see anyhting here that was entraptment. Entrapment is encouragin criminal activity in a nutshell. You can question this guys ethics, but never have I seen someone with merely poor ethics violate a crime. We shouldn't base guilty and not guilty on someones morality, rather law is concerned with acts. Good luck, but I do hope that you change your fishing strategies becuase I believe that at best this shows a lack of judgment.
  8. As long as you think you can get it done quickly, like in the mail no later than next monday. So far I've recieved two dozen, Drath and the Fly Midge.
  9. Wyoming/Montana, because it's hard to go wrong with Yellowstone. But I'm also going to Rocky Mountain National and the Driftless area, so I reserve my right to later change my mind. Although I would say that if you are chasing lunkers then I would choose Arkansas, hands down and no doubts.
  10. No, I know that no matter what there are times that we get into spots where we wish we weren't. Atticus Finch is a fiction, but that doesn't mean that there aren't attorneys out there that are doing good things. Unfortunatley the news likes to report bad things, murders, rape, beatings, robberys, etc... But that doesn't mean all people are bad. It's just the same with lawyers, there are good ones out there, but they don't get front page news, rather we reserve that spot for the scum bags of the earth, the ambulance chasers and what not. Like all stereotypes, 1 percent of it is truth, but it would be a faux to call it a whole. I've been crapped on a bunch already, but I'm not ready to give up. When I see my clients as a mere pay check and not a person then I know that I am jaded, and it does happen, but that's is when you find a new job. And no, I'm not a Harvard student and I don't want to change the world, just want to make my little spot better. Anyways, bottom line is that I want to do business with a store that isn't cutting at the bit to screw over a long term customer.
  11. Hope that is just a joke as the only reference to lawyers was law school, and not all law students become lawyers . If a lawyer was doing what K&K is doing, it would be a conflict of interests for an attorney. And if I was in the position of sacrificing my ethics for one client, or a couple clients, then I fire the client without blinking. Not all lawyers are scum bags. Ness is right, if K&K wants to do what they are doing, then do it through the back door. Otherwise you end up with grumbling from the peanut gallery.
  12. KAyser, I think we still have room. If you want to tie, be my guest.
  13. Just while we are on this topic, I'd still take an Adams(traditional) over a compradun. May be my personal favorite, but it's a fly that I won't go without. I love a sparkle dun, but I think an Adams is just as effective, not to mention they're a beautiful fly. And anyways, not in the market to buy hackle per se. Just commenting on some business practices that I have seen.
  14. There may be reasons why these two shops are losing customers like myself, and I doubt it is the fact that I can purchase materials for 10% cheaper online. I understand that the guy has to keep his lights on, and I have no problems with a free market capitalist society. But with that out there, how does it reflect on a business when you actively jump up the FMV of a product? Free market is fine, but the ethics of a business owner need to match. When I was in K&K, a guy asked to buy the whole cape, but the owner said he is selling it at 2 dollars per feather. You should have seen the guys look on his face. Now that strikes me as wrong. If an owner is struggling to keep the lights on, then sell the cape. It's not the idea of making money, but the fact that some people are taking advantage of loyal customers that strikes me as wrong in this situation. I understand that FMV of an item is what a willing buyer will pay a willing seller, but you and I know that these feathers weren’t worth 2 dollars a feather two years ago. This is a good reason to shop online, or buy from a different shop. And in the meantime, the shops in KC seem willing to cut their customers for short term profit. Lilley and Tim seem to be at a different level. Selling to anyone is one thing, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, taking an item and basically pricing it off the market for the customers you are trying to attract is a whole different ball game, it's a predatory idea. I know of compraduns, X-Caddis, Fat Alberts and CDC's(still think sparkle duns are better and easier to tie that Compraduns btw). But the principal remains the same. I want to do business with someone who treats customers fairly, and not an owner that is willing to take advantage of the people who keep their lights on. I guess next time that I'm down at RR or Taney I will stop in at Tims or Lilleys. Just makes me think of who I have been giving my money to, and in the future I van garauntee that K&K won't be getting my money as I am lookin for a nice 5 wt. when I graduate law school here in a year.
  15. I know that the feather craze and the fashion trend is in full swing, but at the same time I think it is important for fly shops to remember that they are in the business of selling fly fishing gear and that fashion trends tend not to last. First, I have no problem if a store wants to sell feathers to whoever wants to buy them, but when shops start to actively sell feathers to fashion dealers and not to fly tyers then I have a problem. It was stuff like today that makes me crazy, and makes me send my future business elsewhere. I was at K&K Flyfishers today and they had some grizzly dry fly saddle, but there was a catch. The owner was not selling the cape as a whole, but rather for 2 dollars per feather. I almost wanted to ask him how long he thought this was going to last, and how much his loyal customers are worth. And K&K is not the only one. Rainbow fly shop is actively buying saddle from its own customers, and then selling the saddle at a profit to local fashion shops. This seems to bother me less, maybe because the guys who are selling the saddle know what is going on. But I want to put together a list of fly shops who are doing this. I know that I won't be back to K&K because they are taking advantage of fly tyers by raising the prices of grizzly saddle in an attempt to target fashion shops while sacrificing customers. Anyone else notice this type of behavior?
  16. Sorry about not posting in a while, I had an intensive trial advocacy class that went from 8-6 everyday for the last week. Gavin, are you swapping your spot? Just want to make sure. Zach, PM sent.

  18. Congrats If your masters degree is anything like my law school experience then GET OUT AND FISH NOW OR YOU WILL BE SORRY LATER!!! My first two years have gone by in a flash, but the first year sucked and the 2nd year was only a little better. I get out to fish about once each semester, two times over christmas break and 5-8 times during the summer. I used to go every other week in my past life. But again, I think it will be worth it as soon as the economy decides to rebound.
  19. Hoping to get down next week, and if not next week then a wweek and a half later. God I can't wait until school is out.
  20. I have the shark skin in my 5wt and love it. However, Rio is a good line and wouldn't think twice about recommending it. To me, I think the line makes the biggest difference. I've casted Sage rods before, and they're really nice. But you'll get more bang for your buck performance wise with line over rods anyday. I've had crappy lines, and they're cheap for a reason. But a 100 dollar rod can be a nice one, like the Cabelas traditional or for 50 dollars more the TFO. But stay away from crappy lines.
  21. The sheriff probably wanted a cool off period because Prater seems to have it in for Chief. A law enforcement agent isn't going to want to encourage a legal incident, especially one with an idiot in Prater who has a gun. I find it marvelously amusing that you people want to assume facts, make up stories and continuously pounder over issues that have no relevance to whether Chief was in his legal right here. Are you guys that bored? And does Chiefs personal relationship, or lack thereof, with Prater have a material effect on your life? Yet continue to ponder over it, I'm sure it adds to the dullness of your life. Tim, I would be curious if there is something going on with prater that is less than legal on the land. It would seem that his actions are somewhat consistent to a person who is trying to hide something. Although, on the flip side he seems to be fine with other people besides Chief going through his land. Although, it seems that he is pretty intent on guarding his area of land, and I don't know if he figures that its the only stream in town or what. I would be really curious to find out what your samples say.
  22. HOSMER is here. Break out the brewskies boys, tonights his first night of real ball. I can't wait to see it, and I'm actually going to be able to watch the whole game . Todays my last fnal until Monday, and its also my birthday, I'm an old man . Wish me luck on the test, lets go royals.
  23. No, it's all fun and games until someone gets shot. I can see why Chief would uphold a request by the sheriff, its called winning an ally. Good grief.
  24. It all comes down to pitching, and right now I don't think the Royals have enough of it to make a long run. Davies, Francis and Hochaver aren't exactly studs. I would love to see us in the hunt come June because then we can bring up the Hosmers and Duffy's of the AAA and not lose a year of control on these guys. It would be sweet to see a run, I'm 25(turning 26 friday) and just barely had my eyes open when we won the world series. Gotta be impressed with Gordon and Francouer(spelling?). Always knew Butler had a bat, just wish Escobar had one to go with that glove. Hoping for Crow to get into the rotation, and O'sullivan to keep it up. Lots of hopes, but hey, I'm a Royals fan. . .
