A great Link to bring attention to a messed up Rule Just add Zip Code & write your concerns House Of Rep I sent mine today.

I just heard that the Shop Owner at Reed's Fly shop got a butt chewing from a friend of the angler in question here for the three fish. He demanded to know why the shop was saying all the bad things about the guy. But as I look back through the thread I see no bad things said about anyone here. This must be hitting a nerve of some people. The Fly shop simply took the photo and Posted it without comment on their Facebook page I took the photo and made the post here under What do You Think. I even blackened the anglers face LMAO!!!! I know for a fact that the Fly Shop does not get involved in the politics of how anglers catch the fish, just takes the photos for them and post them. Then it is public domain.

OK! This is the scoop for how this is going to have to work. First of all the MDC have to be made aware of a problem. Then this rule has to be looked at by a rules committee Then if they see a problem they make a new rule and it is sent to the Commissioners for their approval then back to the rules committee to do the final rule update. When ask how that the Brown trout could be protected in the Blue Ribbon area and not inside the park they are going to tell you that the DMC manages the Blue Ribbon area for Brown trout and they do not manage the trout parks for brown trout. Even though the brown trout come from the Blue Ribbon (protected area) into a unprotected area of flying jigs, live bait, dough bait and basically a slaughterhouse for fish above 15". The first step is to contact the Chief Of Fisheries Chris Vitello and tell him your thoughts on this rule he can be reached at Chris Vitello ( The More The Better. I understand from this thread they have already had some calls. the phone # is 573-522-4115. We can get this changed if everyone that hates to see a great resource being ripped from out mitts because of a loophole in a rule will let them know. A 18" 1 Brown Trout State Wide would be a start.
-
Something interesting has come from this thread, The MDC agent himself was not aware of the 4 brown trout rule inside the trout parks. & he is doing some checking into it. Along with everyone it is a mystery to them why the brown trout are not offered the same or better protection inside the park as in the blue ribbon area. I would love to see the MDC change this rule as quickly as they can because we are loosing trophy browns at a rate that the upper current river can not stand. I will be contacting MDC today and voicing my thought on this rule. The Current River Blue Ribbon Area is a jewel in the Trout ring of Missouri but it needs to be polished a bit.

The face is not that important here but the local agent has the photo and is on the job. I did or do not want to accuse this guy of being in the wrong, but I sure hate to see the River being robbed of all the big Browns. As for the photo being taken the shop owner does not get involved in the politics of the methods of catching, but will report any possible violations as this to MDC. I know more to the story of this angler and his catches but here is not the place to air them. The meaning of the post was and is to see what other anglers thought about the evidence as presented and show how one angler is limiting the numbers of brown trophy trout for everyone. And if that angler is watching this tread would see what his peers think it. (These Three fish this Sunday is only the tip of the iceberg for this particular angler.) Also show enforcement that their is an issue on the Current River and it will be made public if we see it. Also the Anglers Photo has not been placed on the web as a badge for him.

These Browns were not stocked browns in the park. They have not stocked Big Browns in the park in years.

Hey Anglers: What would you be lead to think about an angler who fishes a trout park about once a week and comes in with 3lb to 7lb brown trout some times three at a time. No rainbows just Big Browns. All being caught inside the Trout Park. Is he just a pro Brown Trout angler, Lucky angler, or being less than honest in his pursuit of fish? Tackle is Spinning Rod, Heavy Line, Polarized glasses, white jigs. With a total of 6 trophy browns in less than 6 weeks. None released all taken home after photos taken and bragged about. I am not accusing anybody of anything only asking what You as a Trout angler thinks about this rare feat in Trout Park Angling.

Welcome & you are close to a bunch of Great Trout Water's Just get you some 7X line and come see how much fun the trout are.

Got a chance to get out and do a few hours fishing Yesterday, and the fishing was pretty good. All the weekenders had gone back to their asphalt world's and left some good size trout behind for the enjoyment of the lucky ones who was able to stay. I made a choice of not fishing the fly area and go into the bait area with flies to see what I could do. I started below the 119 bridge and fished all the way to the loop 4 camping area. I had very little luck till I got to the gabions. I only managed to hook up with 2 stockers and a big chub minnow. The Governor's (Rock Hole just below the hatchery pools) was lined with about 6 anglers with dough bait and spinners. All has fish on stringers and had the hole surrounded. I started down the big flat water behind the lodge and things started to turn around on both the catching and the size of the fish. I noticed some sippers rising over the grass on the what everyone thinks would be the non productive water on the left side bank. I drifted a #16 Li's Hottie over the grass and had a good size (16-18") come up and look. I was using 5x tippet and saw that I needed to go down on size. I switched over to 7x and on the third drift hooked up with one of the lookers. (2lb). As I was about 100 yards from the campground bridge I switched over to a #16 Rubberleg Stimulator, and on the first drift hooked up with a 19" beautiful Rainbow (3.5lb.) The stocked hole under the bridge had 5 or 6 anglers all gathered up in the shade of the bridge so I walked over the road and re entered the river just below the bridge. This was a chance to change up flies because of the swifter flow and the rock structure that is in the area. I put on a Olive #16 Wooly Bugger and on the first drift hooked up with a 12" rainbow. I spotted a good trout rising on the grass just below a chute between two rocks. I put on a #18 Griffiths Gnat and after three drifts got the fish to rise and look. Three more drifts nothing, so I changed to a #16 Black/ Blue Crackle-back, That was what the fish was looking for. The fish was a Brown Trout that measured 20.5". I heard later that a 11 year old boy had caught a big brown in the same place the day before and it went 6 lb. Don't know if he released it or not if so Thank You! From the chute I caught the brown to the Handicap area in the camp ground I hooked up with 6 more 10-16" fish on the Crackle Back & a put on a #16 black Wolly Bugger. Below the old bridge at the handicap area I caught 3 nice 14" fish. I only had one more event that was fun, just above the loop4 camp area I had a Brown Trout that took everything except the fly line. rod, reel, & arm. I think it was on the side of 8lb. (But in may have been 25lb. The big ones always get away don't they?) I do this little adventure about once every year and I am amazed at how many good size fish are hiding in places people don't think hold fish. A Lot of cast per fish but the quality of fish and fishing un-fished water inside a trout park is worth it.

Feathers And Losing Business
Idylwilde replied to troutfiend1985's topic in General Angling Discussion
Reeds has all the good feathers under the counter and sell only to tiers. Saw them turn down hair stylist and they did not raise the price to their folks. They will give you a verbal test on tying a fly before you get the feathers. -

Fishing Report, June1-3 At Montauk And Below Cable
Idylwilde replied to Jtschrock's topic in Current River
These little guy's are hot right now. & with a #22 silver Zebra Midge as a dropper they are awsome -
My understanding that the Trout Fisherman event is the weekend of September 10th-11th.

Hey guy's I am sorry to have stirred up a little turmoil here. Please let me try to explain something about this event. I saw something about an event some of you had mentioned The Trout Bust. With 105 folks coming down the the Current River to enjoy the river and do some fishing. Well this is no different than that in reality. The only difference is you give a $25.00 fee (Tax deductible) to a charity. All the valued prizes will be given away at the end of the event by drawing. No matter if you pay the fee and spend the day under the AC and never wet a hook or draw a pardner and fish all day and catch 100 trout. I understand the reasoning behind the TOURNAMENT IDEA and that is why we did the way we did in making it an event that folks could meet new friends and learn from them, and enjoy just being in the outdoors. The only people that will profit from this event is folks that are loosing the ability to breath and turn to the the American Lung Association for help. The Trout Park holds the Rose Holland event every year for the Heart Association and they drew over $8000.00 last year, and over 1000 anglers competing for lunker & tagged trout for prizes. I though we could start an event for this organization that could grow into something that would help out. I do not even dream of having close to that amount of money or people here. Heck I would be great full to get 1/2 as many folks as the trout bust for the event's first year. I hope this sheads a different light on the event and let you see it's not going to be 500 folks swinging 9' rods up and down the river, and running off everyone except the event people. The only thing that the person who catches the most fish will get over all the others is the enjoyment of catching the fish & if he would agree I would like to have a photo for the web page and if he uses his own pattern to catch the fish with his permission post the recipe and photo of the fly here and on FaceBook as the hot fly for the current river.

Suggestion back: If all you folks are coming to fly fish why not join in the fun and help the American Lung Association? One day out of 365 we want to help by having an event where we help a great cause and gather up great prizes for the anglers who help. That is all we are asking. We do not expect for the 25 miles of the Current river to be shoulder to shoulder anglers like opening day at the park. Just a few true fly fishermen and ladies to have a great day.We do not tell all the party goers and canoeist to take their events and go someplace else. I'm sorry but the event will be Saturday September 17th. By the way we have a custom made 8' 2pc 4-5# fly rod as a prize, $325.00 value, Pair of Korkers Boots $196.00 value, 2 pair of Frogg Togg Waders $100.00 value, One pare of Hendrix Outdoors waders $181.00 Value, 1 Cortland CDM fly reel $54.00 value, Assortment of Fly Boxes from $10.00 to $30.00. A Grey's GS 9'5# 4pc rod with G2 Reel with Line and backing 20# and 9' 4x leader $179.79 value. The list is growing. But thank you for your suggestion 3wt.

After stumbling around for two weeks on dates for the fly fishing event on the current river, and with help from folks on the forum we have set the date for September 17th 2011. We have had some good people donate prizes like Korker's Boots, Grey's, Pacific Fly, Montana Fly, Hendrix Outdoors, Lilleys Landing, Just to name a few so far. We have several more folks that have offered to help with prizes. For the Complete information and rules follow this link. Info Link I will be posting more information on the event as it develops. And Thank you folks for the help giving Ideas to get this going. (Still open for suggestions.)

We had a storm come through yesterday afternoon and dropped 1" of rain right on top of Montauk. but the upper watersheds did not get that much. The park is up about 3" and off color in the main river but the water from the feeder creek Pigeon Creek is flushing the color out real fast. Things should be good for the holiday weekend.
-
Picked up 4 of these little jewels for today below the park. Can't wait to see a big bow or brown chew one up.
-
At what point will the trout start to turn belly up from the warm water and low oxygen levels? It must be geting warmer with pouring all the surface water that has been warmed into the river.

OK This is why I ask on this forum about Ideas for this event. So! I have made the decisions to take the Ideas that will make this event as enjoyable as possible and do the following, and hope it will be a successful and fun event. 1. The date of the event will be the August 27th. (Most canoe Traffic is off the river then.) 2. No prize Money will be awarded to anglers. A trophy will be given for the most fish caught, and drawings for sponsor prizes.( 100% to the American Lung Association.) 3. $25.00 entry Fee per angler. 4. Two man teams on the honer system with score cards which will be furnished by event. 5. Start Time: 7:00 am End Time: 5:00 Pm 6.Anglers will be divided into two man teams randomly. 7.No spin-cast equipment shall be used. 8.All anglers will have a valid Missouri fishing license. 9.All fish attracting flies will be made under the State Of Missouri definition of a Fly. (A fly shall be constructed on a single-point hook using any material except soft plastic bait and natural and scented bait that is tied, glued, or otherwise permanently attached.) 10.Canoes, kayaks, are optional, both team members must remain in sight of the partner while fishing. 11.Fish-able water boundaries will be from the cable at the head of the blue ribbon area below Montauk State Park to Akers Ferry. 12.All fish shall be released unharmed quickly after documentation. Trout either Brown or Rainbow will be the only fish excepted as tournament qualifying species of fish. 13.No team will wade of fish or float through another anglers fishing area without permission. 14.No alcohol beverage will be consumed during tournament hours. 15. Any fish foul hooked shall not count in creel. 16. Any Trout landed will be scored to creel. ANY DEPATURE FROM THE RULES OR FISHING ECTHICS WILL BE GROUNDS FOR DISQUALIFICATION All enteries should be made at least a week before the event date. By 8-20-11. OK folks this is what I have now except for the beat or zone's. If this is successful and something you want annually we will look into tweaking it next year. You can send inquires to my e-mail and I will send further information to you. By the way Chota has already donated some nice gear for prizes. I will have a PDF flyer put out by next week for people to print and share with whom ever they want. I appreciate any help I can get from the fly fishing community for this event. This is not an easy thing to do with out the support of you fly anglers. Most of all is to have a great day fishing and fellowship.
-
We will be supplying all the entries with a cloth sewing tape measure that attaches to a vest so it will be quick and easy to get to and easy use in the water. To the beat thing again I wish the river had the access to be able to do this but the Current River is a river that it would be a hardship to move people here and there. That is the reason I placed the rule for Canoes and wading through fishing areas and ethics in. I have fished the Current from the Spring to the Black River and have found Trout ( Nice Trout ) all the way to Welch Spring above Akers, depending on stocking times. The folks that chose to fish below Cedar Grove in the any bait area will still have a great chance of catching some big trout this time of year. Knowing how to read the river and the hatch and fly pattens will do good. This will be a test of fly fishing knowledge and skill along with enjoyment of meeting new friends, being outdoors, and learning from fellow anglers. And helping the American Lung Association. I would love to see 25 teams show up for this, I know we can do it I just want to get a date nailed down so people can plan for it. I have PDF Flyer's read to send out if you request one. I will not spam people to get the word out.
