  1. The last box like that we bought for the shop was $275.00 Nice but not cheap.
  2. At the head of the rock hole and above.
  3. A quick and easy way to make the egg.
  4. Hope to make some mad" http://www.intheriffle.com/photography/brown-trout-pout/
  5. I started at the dam at 7:30 a.m and fished my way to the Rock Hole using a #16 olive woolly Bugger, and had four good size 13" fish. The fish was holding at med depth and not very active. As I approached the rock hole the Blue wing hatch started. Clouds of BEO were raising in the shallow flats just above rock hole. The fish was on the top sipping everywhere. I changed to a cdc #24 BWO pattern and spent the next hour and half having a ball catching fish. Standing at the head of the chute and making short drifts down the chute into the hole. I also caught fish in the tail of the hole and down the flat at the end of the hole. When things settled down there w worked my on up into the shallow flat water and picked up more fish on the same pattern. I got to the next hole the fish were settled in laying on the bottom for the most part. I put on a 1/180 egg pattern and had some looks and turn aways. the only way I caught fish was let it settle to the bottom and set for a few seconds and they would pick it up. I was using 7x Orvis Mirage Fluorocarbon tippet. On the way back down river I used the black/Blue #18 crackle back and only hooker up with 3 fish. Once back at the deep water above the dam I changed to a #14 black woolly bugger and drifted it down then short stripped it back over the grass and hooked up with 7 fish. At about 1:30 P.M the sun was high and the temp was at 85 degrees and the fish was getting lock down. All in all the fishing was great but you had to match the hatch to the size and color, and have a good presentation. On my way through the park this morning I noticed the BWO hatch was on again just below the 119 bridge. That is the bait area and not one angler was fishing it. I have a bitter sweet thing to mention also. Yesterday morning their were 4 lunker brown trout placed on the board at the lodge. and I counted for the last month their are over 25 on the board most taken on jigs and dough baits. This is great for the park anglers and bad for the Blue Ribbon area and the fly anglers below the park. O Well that's the way things are and not likely to change anytime soon. I took my click counter with me yesterday. and when I got to the rig the number was 42 fish. Not a bad day anywhere.
  6. The lower lake has some 13" crappie, Huge Blue Gill, and thousands of stunted bass. I was able to fish it two years ago while I was working for the state. They will not have any available launch for floating out of the park.
  7. Fish Pimp has some excellent line dressing.
  8. Seems to be common practice down in the blue ribbon area these day's!
  9. I have got that photo sent to me text from all over the country and from every lake that has crappie in them. The most believable of the story's is it came from a farm pond in IL. I find it hard to believe BP would pay that much for a dead fish. it,s eyes are already glazed. Just saying!
  10. We have all the Leland lure products here and all the colors of trout Magnet's $1.99. SOS Trout Line and Easy Floats, Phantom fluorocarbon leader line also. They are a popular item at Montauk. And they catch fish.
  11. Just used these for the first time and they impressed me. I am not a easy sale on new stuff but these are nice. Easy to use and great to see any action you have.

  13. Browns are Moving up. This was the second by this angler this week, and 5 others have been placed on the Lunker board.
  14. I post on FB because it's the shop's page, I don't post nothing except reports here. Don't want to stir up something because someone don't like the size of the fish or the angler that caught it. Heck some I don't even post on FB. I hardly take a photo of the fish I catch because of the stress to the fish and everyone has seen a fish.
  15. At 8:30 this morning the trico hatch filled the sky with size 20 -24 bugs. They were falling back into the waiting lips of trout skimming the surface. I watched three anglers that did not know what all the bugs were and was fishing scuds and San Juan worms. Needless to say fishing was slow for them. I also saw an angler who was in the know and fishing a trico & he had a fish on about every drift. He also caught one while his fly was drifting below him while he was cleaning his hands. The bait area was going strong with Secret Bait and Power Bait, Spinners, and jigs. This weekend is looking great with cooler weather & no rain. We had less than 1/2" of rain which did nothing to the river. Some of the pollen is settled off the water but it is extremely clear, Then next weekend is Free Fishing State Wide.
  16. Well Monday and folks are starting to leave for home after the holiday weekend. Saturday & Sunday was very busy in the park with families enjoying the river and park. Fishing was good but ruff with all the anglers competing for the fish. The fly area had lots of good sized fish in it and early in the mornings they were hitting great on red/white jigs, Olive woolley, white jigs, & Egg patterns. I took two anglers out for their first fly fishing trip and the managed to catch fish on egg pattern's & Woollies. Had to work hard to keep then enthused in it after one got over the top of the hip waders he was wearing, & broke about 8" off the tip of his new Bass Pro White River rod. But at the end of the day they said the fell in love with Montauk & fly Fishing. I knowest the most fish I had ever seen swimming with jig's and flies in their mouth's and sides. The area just above the dam received the most pressure and the rock hole had as many as 10 anglers around it at one time. But the great thing about Montauk is you don't have to go far to find a stretch of water that has fish and no anglers in sight. On busy weekends you can find shallow flat water that has fish that have not been pressured and seen every fly that has walked by. When we were coming up the chute into the rock hole I saw about 15 good sized fish laying in about 8" of flat water. We managed to drift an egg pattern and catch one. They had all moved out of the deep water at the rock hole because of the on slot of tackle being drifted through the hole. Even just above the dam in the deep water the fish had moved to the shallow weed beds to get away from the pressure. All in all it was a very good day on the river, the temp was in the high 90's and wind was blowing from the SW at between 15 & 25 MPH. The slow water and eddies were covered with pollen from Sycamore trees and very clear under the film. Crackle backs and #16 black wollyes were best worked just under the surface in quick short strips. San Juan worms was fair just rolled along the bottom. Jigs was also doing fair when fished quick just under the surface, I found that if anglers were fishing from the opposite bank and on the bank the fish were very spooked and tended not to even look at a bait. I also noticed that white shirts spook fish when they are in the shallow water. One of the men with me was wearing a bright white shirt and the same fish that the other man walked with in a yard of took off when the white shirt came within 10 yards. In the deeper water it did not seem to effect them. When we started I had rigged them with 5X tippet, but within the first 30 min I saw they needed to go to 7X fluorocarbon. That made all the difference in the amount of hits they got, but being new at the fly fishing they lost several fish. Things will be settling into the summer patterns this week and there are a lot of fish that will be ready to play this week.
  17. The browns are already on the way. About 4 have had the privilege of eating dough bait already. But the people in the know say there is not a problem with it!
  18. The warmer weather and dry conditions with low water has all kinds of hatches going on. This morning the Caddis were everywhere. The Tricos have been hatching good in the mornings for the past two weeks.
  19. Fishing at Montauk was good this morning with a great trico hatch. Size 20-26 females were working fair, but for the last couple of days the egg patterns have been the bait of choice for catching fish. The John Deer jig drifted under a indicator has been taking some fish also. I fished a #18 black Caddis dry and caught two fish on it. The crackle back fished as a dry was not working very well but stripping it back just under the film was taking light hits. I expect the patterns to change this week with the heat wave that is headed our way. I have had a few anglers say that they have caught fish on a black foam beetle #18. If I was going to try this pattern I would set a #18 Zebra Midge about 18" below the beetle. The fishing in the Blue Ribbon area this week has been very slow. There also the egg patterns have been the bait of choice. The area below Parkers Ford is not a good choice of river just now. This is because of the low water conditions right now. The flat water is just not holding fish and it's a pretty good hike between holes that are holding fish. This up coming week end is going to have canoes, tubes, & what ever a person can ride on going down this area of the river. But by no means the fishing at Montauk inside the park will be slow. Enjoy the week end!
  20. For the fluorocarbon small size lines like 5 to 8X I have found if you run the line between your teeth and flatten it helps hold the knots better. It flattens the line a bit and gives it more friction in the knot.
  21. I agree with Brian! For the $$$$ a great rod. We have a dealership with Hardy and their customer service is good also.
  22. an answer to the whole thing is buy 100 acres of land at $$1,900 per acre, Hire a company to do a perk test and if it will hold water hire a surveyor and a dozier, . Put in a 25 or 50 acre lake. fence it in Stock it YOURSELF, Post it and guard it. Allow NO Fishing, Picnicking, No NOTHING! Get your boat and cooler and enjoy the peace & Quiet. NOTE: Let no one know the location or the place will be over run with folks looking for what you have. Just saying!!
  23. Reed's has all 45 colors of the LLW in 5ct and 25ct bags Great little worm.
  24. I guess the nice little box was not something you wanted? Still setting here waiting for it's owner to show up. Soon I will take it fishing LOL
  25. Fishing yesterday and today was outstanding!! I fished above the dam and was surprised at the size and amount of fish in the fly water. I started at 3:00pm on Sunday afternoon and the day after the big free kids free fishing event. I was one of four anglers on the river between the dam and rock hole. A size 18 olive mini leech and a size 18 flash olive woolly bugger was taking fish on just about every third drift. No weight added just a slow strip at the end of the drift. The other anglers were soon asking what I was using and tying on. They soon got the hang of it and were also bringing fish to hand. About 5:00 I switched to a griffith gnat and took 2 fish but had several lookers and turn aways. Some other anglers came and they were fishing sow bug's with not much luck. Today they were in the same pattern of the leech. And they was still a great bunch of fish in the area all the way to the spring.
