zander Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 An early heads up for any who might be interested. Saturday March 29th from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM by the Lake Springfield Boathouse and Marina there will be an activity open to anyone (especially youngsters) who might be interested in learning how to fly fish. This is an event put on by Branson Trout Unlimited and JPMorgan Chase Working Families Network. Any TU members or may be thinking about being members who would like to stop by and lend a hand are welcome. Of course there is no charge. There will be casting lessons (blind leading the blind) and maybe even some fishing down the lake for bluegill and bass. Anyone who might have some lighter weight fly rods that they wouldn't mind letting other flip around or that have hula hoops for targets we could definately use those. This is the first of what I hope will be monthly activites that TU and WFN could put on in the Springfield area to help raise money for Branson TU. But that being said - this event is totally free We would love to see you there. Contact me if you have any questions.
zander Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 I am bumping this event for more visibility. The date is fast approaching. I know that this event is concurrent with the White Bass event at BCO but I am hoping that we will have a good turnout weather permitting. I would still like to have some help if possible from any of you out there. I have two 8wt flyrods only for the people to learn with. Anybody who has an older backup rod that we could borrow for the event or better yet, bring it with you to the event and help out. For those of us who live in Springfield you can expect to see a lot more events to take part in to help support Branson TU in our area in the coming year. If you are an inactive member or a on-the-fence kind of person, please come and take part in these events. And by the way, I have enough hula hoops now. Buying a lot of hula hoops at Wal-Mart is a unique experience. I could have sworn I heard the Beach Boys playing.
zander Posted March 29, 2008 Author Posted March 29, 2008 Well we had the event this afternoon. As I had feared the weather kept people from showing up in droves. I was about to call it a total wash (pun intended) when a car pulled up to the Lake Springfield Boathouse and Marina. This person and her 2 year old daughter had driven all the way from Galena to take part in this so there was no way I could cancel it after that. After the rain stopped we had a chance to teach her how to cast the flyrod. The wind was pretty stiff but in spite of that she did remarkably well. In fact, well enough to win some prizes for her daughter. My son was the award giver and loved his role. Although we didn't have the number of employees show up needed, hopefully I have learned lessons on how to get people more commited to participate in events in the future. the little one learning how to flip the flyline Tammy and her daughter with her newly won White River flyfishing vest and rainbow trout pin and my son's big smile (he might have had a crush on her)
rps Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 You are a good man. It escapes me why bad weather tries to spoil events like the one you scheduled.
Danoinark Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Zander Thanks for your efforts and you helped make the day for that mom and daughter. I hope this gets to be a big event. Lets help promote this for Phillip and at the same time you'll be helping TU. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
