Hand fishing

I am personally against it. If it was strictly a catch and release situation I could maybe go along with it. But when I see or hear of guys taking several super quality fish and keeping them, I dont see the point. I spend alot of time rod and reeling and a big cat takes time and effort. Wadeing in and grabbing them when they are most vulnerable dosnt seem like a fair way to catch a trophy, but hey thats just my opinion.

I wonder what info the cons. dept came up with after there first legal season in those areas where legal?

Probing the depths, driving lunkers from their homes!

I don't like "noodling" either. If someone knows what they're doing (and lots of 'em do) then they can really butcher an area of river. I guess that I wouldn't be "as" against it in impoundments, but I wish they would leave the rivers alone.

There is a very dedicated pro-noodling contigent in Mo and I don't think that it is going away any time soon.

Its an old, if not illegal, practice. There doesn't seem to be any shortage of big Flats, the area is limited, and it doesn't seem to conflict with any other fishing. Its certainly more "hands on" than bank or trotlines. I don't see it as a threat to anything, except maybe fingers.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

There is a darn few things in this world that I'm scared of. But putting my hand back into a hole reaching for some unknown it, is one!! My grandpa was a small man about 5'2" 120 lbs. Once on the St. Fran., He put his hand back into a hole and a large cat closed his mouth around GP's arm. Pulled him under, His brother helped to to the bank, I remember GP's arm, looked like two cats tried to mate on it. That and large snappers, If I can't hook it or shoot it, I'll let it be.

If some one wants to do that, let them be!! Better man then me.

i haven't gotten to go yet, but my brother said its about as much fun as you can have with your clothes on. i'm not really sure how it affects the population though i can't really see noodlers keeping that many more fish than fishermen or causing any ecological harm.

Cute animals taste better.

I am not real crazy about the idea of noodling myself but, for those how enjoy it--go for it. They have noodled in Oklahoma for years and they still have plenty of flathead.

I would rather be fishin'.

I was kind of surprised it wasn't legal because it was comman when I was a youngster. I never did it because of the fear I would find a big Snapper, which were comman then also.

Many question whether of not the Flathead population is out of balance , because they have no predators aside from man, they eat live fish and they're capable of taking some large fish.

I was just wondering-----how many people do you know or have heard, that they have noodled??

My brother-in-laws noodle in Oklahoma all the time. They seem to enjoy it very much. As for me? In one of my weaker, and more stupid moments, I agreed to go with them. They found a big cat in a hole under a rock and assigned me the task of blocking another hole so that it couldn't get out. Well the long and short of it; the cat decided to exit his home through the hole I was blocking. If you've ever had a big cat run down the underside of your belly it's an experience everyone should have once, only once! I'm glad the water was running cause it cleaned my shorts for me! That was the first and last time I've been. If you like, go for it! Me, I'm the one with the rod and reel.
