Murdoc Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Hey!! Anyone fish Montauk this week or opening day?? Everywhere else has had reports. How did the river look??? Big fish?? Smiles are free http://rdpflyrods.com/
ekl-stl Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Well..... It was as expected... Huge crowds.. and with those huge crowds, you get to see stuff that you never see at that park... some good things, some bad.. Saw some big fish caught.. the stockers were small.. I dont know how bad it flooded this fall/winter but I couldnt find the little "naturally spawned/not natural" trout that look wild.. Normally they are in all of the ripples and rapids but I found none.. Good food, good times and the hot tub was great
10pointer Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 i too was down for the opener. Friday scouting i saw at least 30 lunkers in the water and it seemed to be clearer than i was expecting. Saturday the opener he water seemed to be churned up most of the day compared to friday because of all the traffic in the water. I caught a ton of fish throughout the weekend and only a couple of us lunker guys caught big ones. They were very hard to see and sightfishing was tough. I saw one lunker cruising during the weekend and i know the others were laying deep as i knew they were in there on friday and noone caught them saturday or sunday, so there should be quite a few big fish left in the stream. The water was going back down to normal but with this snow they had earlier this week, who knows. Ill be down there the 14th and 15th for the mens tournament, and the 23-27 with some buddies of mine mid week, then several weekends in april also. Hoping the water clears up and i can get into my element!
rainbow Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I fish Montauk quite a bit. What holes do you like the best. We like the big wide hole above the dam. Have seen some monsters come out of it.
hfdhoosier Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 I will be down there the 23rd thru the 30th of this month. I usually only fish the fly area. I love the shaded stretch with the cliff wall on the other bank. Have started to fish right below the road bridge too.
