What brand did you break? Might be a warranty or an inexpensive repair the Co. can make, such as replacing just that section. Step on any graphite fly rod and its going to break.

If you let us know what you are wanting to spend it will give us "experts" (LOL) a much better idea of how to advise you.

:lol::lol::lol: GREG... STOP IT, MAN!! You're KILLIN' me here...:lol:

Yeah, before you go out and buy a new one, let's see if you can get the old one replaced. Most decent fly rods have a good warranty program... even if you step on it or slam it in the truck door while standing in the parking lot at Taney at 2am drinking Bud Light and shooting the bull with the guys...

I slammed my 3wt in the door of the popup last year and broke it in half. Was talking to the guys over at Cabela's fly shop in KCKs. They asked me if I had it. Just so happened it was in the truck. They told me to go get it they might be able to fix it. I ran out to the truck brought it back in. Gave it to Keith or Hap (I think) went back to the store room and brought out a brand new one. His parting words were "hear you go, good as new". Took it up to Customer Service for an even trade.

Right now they have a great sale on their Cabela's rods. I own a 3wt and 5wt LST and a 4wt TFO. I would be happy to make a deal to someone for the TFO as I don't use it. The LST's just work better for me! If your on a tight budget as I am I recommend the Cabela's rods.

Like Terry said most of the bigger names will warranty the rods with a little jack in return. Temple Fork requires you to pay shipping and $25.00, no questions asked. Been there also.

Good luck,

Pat

it is a Cortland fly rod and reel and it says on the warranty that it is guaranteed breakage or manufactuers defects for 1 year up. It has been about 2 years since i got it. I want to buy a rod that is 120 dollors or less with a great warranty if possible. and what size then. the broken one i have now i believe is a 5 or 6 weight. I will mostly just be fishing for trout. Thanks for the help :)

If you want a nice rod with a great warranty at $120 then your options are a little limited. But one I know of is the TFO Series 1. I've cast the 8.5 ft 5 wt. Very nice feeling rod. With a lifetime warranty. It's $100

Lots of other nice rods in that price range from BPS(white river series) and Cabela's (traditional and 3 forks series) - but they have a 1 year warranty I think. I also know St. Croix has a couple of rods in that price range (the reign? and triumph) that have a 5 year warranty. Redington has their red fly series at about a hundred bucks. Not sure about the warranty though.

Just some ideas. If you spend at least a hundred bucks in my opinion its hard to find a bad rod. But I would cast some at that price and see what you like.

good luck,

Greg

The TFO is hard to beat in that price range and one of the best warranties. Google em up.

I think Phil has them in his store too.

Ok, so I'll go ahead and summarize previous discussions:

Poster #1: What rod?

Poster #2: Buy a Sage!

Poster #3: Yeah, Sage is nice.

Poster #4: Sage is good, but I suggest TFO

Poster #3 (again): Yeah, TFO is really nice, especially for the money

Poster #5: I like Sage, and TFO is good, but I only buy Scott now

Poster #3 (again again): Oooooh, Scott is good. Or Sage...

Poster #3 (again again again): I forgot to mention I still like TFO, too

Poster #6: I have a Cabelas, but I waved a Redington in the fly shop once and it feels really nice

Poster #2 (again): You have good points, but Sage service is awesome.

Poster #3 (again again again again): Oh yeah, Sage service is amazing! And TFO's too. I heard that Scott has good service, but I don't know about Redington. I'm sure they're good, though...

My Post: Forget all those others and buy a Sage Launch...

Poster #7: Nobody can tell you what rod is best for you, go cast some in the store.

That being said, unless you want to jump up to a $200 rod (or more), TFO is a superb choice.

I hope this was useful. I know it amused me B)
