WebFreeman Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Either the 22nd or 29th, we're taking the kids to Roaring River for the day. Girls, 2 and 6. It's been many moons (nearly 200) since I've fished there. Looked at the map from MDC and it's pretty generic. Any advice on where to start? I'd like to avoid bait fishing if I can. Don't want to keep any and don't want to have explain gut-hooking to either kid or my wife--they're a but squeamish. No preference between fly and spin. I've got a good selection of buggers, beetles and zebras in black, red and olive. Though I'd hit Tim's for some eggs/glo balls and some smallish jigs. timsfly Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Zone 2 is the place to start, I like the area where the bathhouse is in campground 3, close to hadicap dock there is a nice run, below and above the dock, good nymph fishing, and we are catching fish on beetles now in that area, but that would be a good place to start, no bait fishing there and there is always good #'s of fish in that area. Members PerfectDrift Posted March 11, 2008 Members Posted March 11, 2008 Tim, Thanks for your constant help. What time does the park open to buy permits (just to confirm a person needs a permit in the catch and release zone during the regular season even if they carry a mo license and trout stamp)? Fishing doesn't start until 8:00 a.m. correct? Thank you. Eric
timsfly Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Black/yellow jigs and olive jigs have been good. On the egg patterns, my favorite it apricot with a red dot. Oregon cheese and lt. roe have also been good. Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
timsfly Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 March fishing hours are 7:30-7:00. You need the daily tag and a MO. fishing liscense to fish in the C&R area. Trout stamp is not needed to fish in the park march 1st-oct 31st Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
Zach Bearden Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 My biggest fish on a dry came from Zone 3. The riffle right above the bath house. Caught him on a Parachute adams that you gave me that day we came in and talked with you. He was around 5 lbs. Sweet fish and I had to give it my all to land him on 2lb maxima. timsfly Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 That is a nice fish on a dry. We don't catch a lot of big fish on dries, treasure each big one caught on a dry. Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
Members PerfectDrift Posted March 18, 2008 Members Posted March 18, 2008 What time does the lodge start selling the daily tags? I can't find that on any of the Mo State info. Thank you. Eric
timsfly Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Fishing starts at 7:30 right now, so tags can be purchased at 6:30 and you can buy tags for the next day at 6:00 p.m. the lodge opens an hour before fishing starts and closes an hour after fishing is over with. the hours change every month except june and july. Water came up about 4 feet last night, it will fall some, but we are getting more rain right now, so fly fishing won't be much count when you are down, bring a sink tip line if you have one, I don't think it will clear real fast, but you never know, it is brown and nasty this morning. I'm down loading a video I took this morning, I'll have it on in a bit. Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
