jjtroutbum Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Arrived around ten AM a too find other anglers had the same idea as we did but quickly got into fish. Near the spring access Rich (noluck) gave me a Y2k and we both picked up fish using them in the higher, off colored, swift water. Rich soon switched to a Primrose and Pearl and quickly started catching steadily. Seem to have most of his luck nymphing near the visible transitions in water depths. I was using the Y2k catching here and there. Till I asked a friendly fellow angler that was having constant tightlines. "Whats the secret pattern?" He showed me his Bedspread mini jig. I also had one in my box and after retying was was busy releasing more than I could keep count of. Which isn't hard for me to do (lose track of numbers). I prefer to concentrate more on the experience. Do remember catching as many as four in four consecutive drifts tho. We both used very little in different patterns for the day not messing with success I guess. I did swing a few soft hackles and had a couple of hook up but both were LDRs. Rich seems to be a pro at the long distance release. I think he was just shaking them loose to hurry up and stick another but he claimed different. I did also swing a olive SlumpBuster on size ten for a few minutes and picked up several more nice fish at the end of the day as the Sun was getting a little lower. Over all a great trip I thought. If only a day long one. And wish those fellows that I talked with before finally climbing out of the water. A good weeks stay. <~~my jealous look Jon Joy ___________ "A jerk at one end of the line is enough." unknown author The Second Amendment was written for hunting tyrants not ducks. jjtroutbum Posted March 11, 2008 Author Posted March 11, 2008 Ya we did chat about your trip while there, Dennis. I am thinking about trying to get away for a over night trip there during your stay. Too short was surly one thing that was wrong. ps. I am normally available able to split gas at a moments notice. Tho making extended plan could be a challenge for me. NoLuck Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Hey Guys, If I would have landed all the fish I hooked I would have been the Man. I probably landed 30-35 fish and hooked another 50 but didn't land them. The Primrose and Pearl seemed to be matching the midges that were coming off all day. JJ tried his best to get a picture of me fishing in the sticks. I did donate one midge to a tree that looked to be some type of sign post for all anglers to leave a mark. Man,that tree sure has seen some folks. I guess when you use a #18 bead head midge you tend to miss landing a few fish. I don't know if I used too big of a bead or what. I opened up the gape on the hook with my clamps which tended to help a little. JJ seemed to think I was dragging bottom a lot. But the bottom pulled back and rolled over just about every time I got snagged. LOL Over all a great day to be out fishing besides the bigger than normal crowd at Montauk. I could complain a little but I won't. I just am amazed at what some people will do to catch fish outside the rules. An undercover Conservation Officer would have a hey-day at Montauk. I try not to let that stuff bother me but, it always does to some extent. Hopefully I will get back down to do some more fishing soon. The way gas prices are going it looks like its going to be a tuff summer. Take care all, Rich

I'm sure your refering only about the powerbait sniper and the fish gut chumming chums. And not the guy who had a couple of beers somewhat near the parking lot. lol I have it on good authority that he didn't realize that this was against the rules till ya told him. Then had to make room in his tiny cooler for a pretty lady back home he promised a few fish for. For which I hope he is rewarded throughly. Should have snapped there pics and posted them under "WANTED."
