Members BrowningFisherman Posted March 19, 2008 Members Posted March 19, 2008 I wish I had a report to give I went down today without realizing that I was going to have to fish for trout in Mississippi river like conditions. Everything I heard was it would take 2 or 3 days to get semi normal flow again. If anyone goes down please post because I am trying to go next week again. I have the itch and all this rain is preventing me from scratching it
rcguy Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 She's moving fast and deep for sure. Last sun. I talked to several guys that had done OK on Easter Egg Glow balls. Also a guy next to me caught several on a brown bead head, he said. I assume it was like a brown scud. I found a mayfly hatch in zone 2 in front of the bluff hole and caught them on top about 2 o'clock. I did.t start until 11:oo but I think if you're there at the horn you'll pick up a few.

Members Tony g Posted March 23, 2008 Members Posted March 23, 2008 The water was almost 3 ft high is most parts of the river especially in zone 2. i did catch around 20 or 25 fish when most people had a hard time catching their limit. the fishing was extremely slow!!!!! most of the fish i caught were on tri colored glow balls and orange and pink jigs under a float. since the water was soo muddy fishing with dark colored flys or small flys size 16 or 18 would not catch fish. good luck to anyone going down there any time soon.
Members BrowningFisherman Posted March 26, 2008 Author Members Posted March 26, 2008 Good advice tony, Mon and Tues it was only about a foot or two high, but its muddy I stumbled around because I couldn't see my feet, they are there fish the eddys and deep, one lure a tri-color glo ball 5 feet under with a giant splitshot especially in zone 1 did the trick. I saw people with sinking line using black woolies or something comparable all the way to the bottom, its showing signs but it'll be a while before its "normal" again. side note there was a black caddis -ish hatch about noon right above the darn, there were enough to annoy me and fly into my eyes, I saw some hit on the surface during the hatch but I doubt it would be productive since the fish are on the bottom and its so murky
Paola Cat Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 I saw a small black caddis hatch last Friday in the same area .... tent wings .... just enough to be annoying ... and then they were gone. Also saw PEDs in Zone 2 .... not very many but saw a few ... looked like #20s. Saw (1) lonesome larger mayfly .... light colored .... #14-#16 in Zone 2. It hit the eddy water in Zone 2 ("at the bend") and was immediately devoured (even in the muddy flow) ... didn't get a close enough look to identify. Can't go wrong with the globall pattern right now. Slow down, fish deep, and be patient. I'm looking forward to clearer waters and other patterns. PC Cheers. PC
