ecce38 Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 will there be any trout left standing, so to speak? I always wonder what effect this sort of thing has on the fish population. Anybody know? RiverRunner Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 That is a good question, I am really curious how both Beaver and the White below the confluence will fare after all this. I remember after a flood a few years ago, I found several dead trout in the woods near Calico Rock. Great avatar, I'll be your huckleberry!
retroaction man Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 This is indeed a great question. Also when was the last time the flood gates were open at the beaver dam? As far as where the living fish will be when this is over. As far as just guessing goes. I would bet they would be just above the houseman access. The reason im guessing this is becuase when they generate balls to the wall the river is still pretty calm in this area. Trout are pretty strong sure some will die off BUT i would imagine once the water comes back down they will come right back up the river. NOw i could totally be wrong so if i am im ready to take my lashing.
rps Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 This time of year, with these water temps, there will be little effect on the trout below Beaver. First, even with water over the flood gates at Beaver, we are getting cold water here in Table Rock. This time of year I have caught rainbows and browns on jerk baits while fishing for walleyes well below Houseman. Second, unlike below Bull Shoals, the flood stages will not flood huges acres of forests with high current. Remember, TR starts within 5 or 6 miles of the Beaver dam and there is a lot of cold water available right now. Last, the mud is at the top end of Beaver. What we are getting in TR right now from Beaver is actually clearer than whats coming in from the TR feeders. Of course, I've been wrong so often I stopped counting years ago.
ecce38 Posted March 22, 2008 Author Posted March 22, 2008 Here are some pictures from beaver. This is from the steps of the "no bait zone" by the two cabins. This from the top of the "no bait zone" by the campsites and bathrooms. This the bridge that connects the spider creek resort to the confluence just below bertand access. These last four were taken at parker bend access. On these I intentionally used a polarizer so you could see the sidewalk paths under the water. I think this is the third time they've opened the flood gates, 2001, 2004, 2008. catman Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Looks like lots of big water moving at Beaver below the dam for sure. Looks clear & FAST I was born at night, but not last night. Odds are with the prepared...
Members RonS Posted March 24, 2008 Members Posted March 24, 2008 Is the flood gates being open what puts the stripers and Hybrids below beaver dam or are they put in by the conservation dept?
ecce38 Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 I think they just swim up from Table Rock Lake when the water warms up. Don't think the flood gates per se trigger their migration up river.
