Danoinark Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Does anyone use amnesia as leader butt material?. If not what do you use it for? ..Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Members Fox Statler Posted February 18, 2006 Members Posted February 18, 2006 I have used it for the running line behind a sinking shooting head. It made casting the shooting head easy by shooting the line for extremely long distances. Because it is of a smaller diameter than the head, it lets the head sink deeper because of lower resistance on the running line in the current. Fishin' What They See, Fox Statler
Brian K. Shaffer Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 I have used it before.. in Michigan for steeheading. If you rig up the Chuck and Duck rig most of the fly shops use - they will spool it on for you. If you bring in a reel with fly line on it.. they will take the line off and fill the rest of your spool with more backing and then Amnesia. So you end up not really fly fishing after all.. just using a fly rod to heave your new difficult rig. Other than that use... I have used some of the yellow colored stuff in 30lb for leader butt material. best fishes - Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
Okieflyfisher53 Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Does anyone use amnesia as leader butt material?. If not what do you use it for? ..Dano Dano, I have not used it for leaders but I do nail knot a short section of it to the end of my fly lines and tie a perfection loop in it for loop to loop connections. I have had too many bad experiences with those braided loops to use them again. Steve

Just seems it would make better loop to loop connections. Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Steve Smith Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Like Steve, I nail knot red 20# Amnesia to the fly line and loop for a loop to loop leader connection. It is very close to the diameter of the fly line, and stays flexible even when the guides are freezing up. I think too it slides in and out of the tip eye better than anything I have tried in the past. The red line also makes a good indicator. I grease it good when dry fly fishing to help it float. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO
