Which Eakins Jig are yall using or have the best luck with up there. I looked at the website and could not figure out which ones to get. I will be up there at Table Rock Apr. 26-May 1. Thanks for any advice.

swelbo1,

I would look at finding some of the smaller 1/8 to 5/16 ounce jigs in that range for now. Colors well PB&J, Missouri Craw, All Brown, All Green Pepper, maybe even some black and blue. Trailers will that is your own pickings I like a small craw look alike, zoom makes a really nice critter craw in green pepper, but I have seem them all. You are trying to make it look like a crawfish, that should give you a really good start. Colors of the crawfish down here are, brown, orange, green, purple, chartreuse and some red. Use those colors to find the best looking color of a jig.

Good Luck and Good Fishing

In case someone was as ignorant as me as to what a Eakins jig was. click here:

This was so realistic I almost snapped at the screen when I saw this demo of the jig. Here I go again back to bass pro.

Would this work on the gravel at short creek or out from the condo's there? What abut just down from fall creek below the restricted area out from the docks? I am going to find out when I go next time.

Thank you Don, I appreciate the help. That is about the same thing we use down here at Toledo Bend and Rayburn, we use just a larger jig. We stay at Happy Hollow and this is my 5th year in a row and my dads and his friends 25th or so year. I hope to be able to fish the flooded stuff but I am not sure if the water will still be up and cleared up when we come. Where do you recommend throwing the jig, transition banks, chunk rock, pea gravel or what?

Last year was my best year using a jig, I threw the MO craw in the 7/16 oz on 15 lb. FluoroClear. I caught more 4 to 6 lbs. bass last year than any other year. I am not a tournament fisherman, but I do get to fish a lot. This year it has been much colder and I was unable to repeat what I did last year, and when the water temp. finally got to where it should be, the water decided to come up about 13 feet. I like that jig due to the ability it has to not get hung up as well. The round head in 5/16 oz seems to get hung in the rocks a little easier. It may be due to the person who is using it, but I get hung less with the flippin jig. Hope this helps.

Well the way things are going down here for us it will still be up, we are still having alot of rain... Happy Hollow is a very nice place, just down the road from where I live a few miles. As far as the jig I throw it just about everywhere. But even better on the long gravel points and in the cedars or hard wood trees, and of course in the bushes if they are still under water when you get up here. Also don't forget the docks around here even better on a good sunny day.

Good Fishing and have a safe trip up here..

Love that Eakins jig 5/16 oz in Mo craw or peanut butter & jelly.

Chompers twin tail trailers,grn pmpkn/prpl flk 4"

Yum woolybug 3" crawdad

great for large or small jaws

here's a pic of a smallie with a eakins Mo Craw in his snoot, caught him just up the river from where I live.

When I don't have a fly rod in my hand I'm pitching one of these jigs from a baitcaster, secret is the right weight line and a vertical presentation.(at least works for me)

The only good line is a tight line

Can you give some tips on fishing the jig on points and docks? I had limited success last year fishing the jig and hope to improve this year. When fishing docks I would fish the stalls and throw to the walk way and strip line to get the jig to the bottom. This accounted for all of my jig fish last year and all of them were decent fish. I have tried casting to the walkway and letting it swing back on semi slack line and had no love. I tried dragging and hopping the jig on points and again no love. Any insight would be appreciated.
