CaptainT16 Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 I have never used this technique and was wondering how you tied them or how you set it up? Do you just tie up a dry fly farther up the line and then attach a nymph as if you were tying on two crappie jgs? Just wasn't sure how you tied the two together. Thanks for the help. Cap'n I always tie mine using a length of tippet tied to the bend of the first hook. Typically I use a clinch knot to do the tie. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
CaptainT16 Posted February 20, 2006 Author Posted February 20, 2006 Thanks for the tip Dano. I have heard of people using it quite often, but have never tried it myself. Going to have to try it next time I make an outing. Wayne SW/MO Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 I tie them like Dan, but I have also tied them with a Palomar, with a larger top fly, using the tag for the dropper. The hook bend is the best for a large dry or wooly, IMO. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members diamond dave Posted February 21, 2006 Members Posted February 21, 2006 If you tie like Dano said you'll have a lot less break offs. I used to double rigg all the time on Taney, but since the rainbows have been spawning so much lately, I've gone back to one fly to avoid foul hooking. It's a huge petpive of mine and it really makes me upset when I do it.
Brian K. Shaffer Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I tie droppers on 2 or 3 ways. First, the way I do it 99% of the time - off the bend : Then I will occasionally try the dropper loop off the leader : Sometimes I try tying off the eye of my point fly.. but I dont do that often. best fishes - Brian Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
Members diamond dave Posted February 22, 2006 Members Posted February 22, 2006 Hey Brian, Did you draw that picture with paint program? If so I'm impressed. I can never draw anything decent on that.
CaptainT16 Posted February 26, 2006 Author Posted February 26, 2006 Thanks for all of your help guys. I can't wait to try and hook this up next time I make it down that way. Now, what are your guys favorite fly setup using this method? Do you usually use a dry and then drop a nymph below it or what? Just seeing what the best setup for this type of method would be? mizzouflyfisher Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 About 99% of the time I fish at Taney I fish a 2 fly setup. It usually consists of a scud followed by a midge. One thing to remember, if you usually land fish with a net, using a 2 fly rig will result in a lot of frustration. I never carry a net because I got so tired of cutting flies out the net. Also, always weight the flies with split shot above the first fly. Otherwise you will have a lot more tangles and more snagged fish.
CaptainT16 Posted February 26, 2006 Author Posted February 26, 2006 Then do you throw them under and indicator or just strip them in that way without an indicator?
