Members REF Posted April 4, 2008 Members Posted April 4, 2008 Was wandering if the cove/rock bluff down from the parkinglot north of dam had very many catfish? Went down there about a month ago and threw some livers but didnt have any luck. I don't have a boat and work nights, so am trying to find some good bank fishing on Springfield/Fellows in the a.m.? Any advice would be appreciated.
WebFreeman Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I fished there a couple times w/o much luck. It looks like it would deep, but I don't think it is. “Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” — Henry David Thoreau Visit my web site @ webfreeman.com for information on freelance web design.
Members Monte Ray Posted April 4, 2008 Members Posted April 4, 2008 Web is right - it's not deep in that area. In fact most of the lake isn't very deep at all. Take a canoe out sometime and you'll be amazed at just how shallow it is and how often you can easily touch bottom with a paddle.

Have you guys ever fished that hot water pool over by the handicap docks with any luck?
zander Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 That is a good place to fish without a doubt. We have always done best there with shrimp, cut bluegill, and stinkbait. We have been fishing more with cut bluegill now because there are tons of little cats that will keep you busy all day rebaiting your hook. Very nice cats are caught out of the area by the hot water outlets. Plus you can throw bass baits in there too and catch bass (although not as often as cats). This time of year I can usually do pretty good walking the banks throwing little spinnerbaits around the fallen trees for crappie and bass but with the water we've had this year I haven't done it yet. Wait too much longer though, and there will be too much poison ivy to fish that way without a haz-mat jumpsuit.
WebFreeman Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 I've done well below the dam. Mixed bag of crappie, bluegill and cats. Never know what you'll get. I know people have done well from the docks, but I've never really fished there for very long. I've caught some decent bass near the old boat ramp/park. I've heard of some REALLY good bass coming out of there, too, but it could be an urban legend. “Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” — Henry David Thoreau Visit my web site @ webfreeman.com for information on freelance web design.
Members brianbarker Posted April 8, 2008 Members Posted April 8, 2008 I've been fishing down there the last 2 evenings and have only been able to catch bass along the north bank not far below the bluff. It is fairly deep in there so I've been throwing shad raps and caught one really nice one about half way between the bluff and the big wooded point running out into the lake on a sexy shad strike kind jerkbait, mainly fishing as slow as I can. A prowling CA caught up with me to see how I was doin and told me he checked a guy last Sat. fishing close to the bluff and had 9 crappie, the biggest about 14 inches. Seems far out but who knows... they have to be in there since nobody catches them. With the crowd lately I haven't been able to get to the hot water outlet where I usually catfish and catch a few small bass, so I'm off to discover. Good luck down there...some days you will really need it. "Your chances of ever catching a record fish increase in direct proportion to your distance from a reliable scale"
Members bigfish Posted April 12, 2008 Members Posted April 12, 2008 went down the other day below the darn and caught three decent flatheads from about two-five pounds on shad that I had frozen from Mc Daniel bridge fishing was still pretty slow some people fishing on the docks had some good catfish.
Members Ozark Baby Posted April 20, 2008 Members Posted April 20, 2008 Sorry but I am new to the area and would like to know where the hot water pool ya'll are talking about is? I only do bank fishing myself because I have no boat and actually prefer fishing on the bank. I am looking for a catfish place for fishing and any help would be appreciated.
zander Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 http://www.parkboard.org/information/city_..._facilities.jpg It is right above the "K" in this map.
