Hey Guys,

I'm going to Bennet Springs for opening day and haven't fished there in about

three years. About the only thing I've ever used is brassies and I do ok

on them, but nothing to bragg about. Anyone that could suggest some flies

form me would be appreciated. I usually fish above the dam if this helps

Dave,

I've had some luck with the white mini-jigs under an indicator. Either white or silver head. The brassies have been good to me as well. Weavers has a fishing report (don't know if its been updated lately) and they usually give a summary of what's been working. Cracklebacks and the "John Deere" are usually a good bet. Dry flies have been a little tougher, at least for me. I have had some luck on some black mosquito parachutes, but nothing regular enough for any real certainty. Hope this helps!

Cracklebacks, Double trouble, Leech, Scuds and Sowbugs, and egg flies. Mini jigs are always good, with olive or green best and in the afternoon a small midge, like a Zebra, can be good.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Those are all good and some great patterns. In the mornings there will be lots of things in the water all at once including spinners, vibrax, and lots of blk/yel marabou jigs. If think like I do,then the spinning gear is relegated to just backup, so early you need to upsize and add flash, be it color or crystal thread. I have had luck making a sz6 or 8 leech weighted with marabou and crystal flash. Then when all the people start to give enough room for a drift, I like to cast a chartruse and red egg pattern(glowball) under an indicator. Then I go into the traditonal patterns later in the afternoon and evening.

The easiest way to catch fish at Bennett is on a white mini-jig, size 1/180. Fish it under an indicator, and keep adjusting your depth so you are barely off the bottom. I typically use a lot of midges, both black and cream are consistent producers. Also, scuds seem to catch fish in zone 2. I usually fish the smallest flies I can at Bennett, because those fish see so many flies.

I don't have any jig heads to tie white mini jigs, but I do have some

beads. Maybe I could put some white marabou in front of a gold bead

on an 18 size hook and do ok. What do you think?

I don't know about fishing a Renegade under an indicator, but you should try stripping it, both as a technique and after a drift on top.

Stripping any wooly type fly can be effective.
