rainbow Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 I will be staying in the Isabella area off of HH this July and wanted to get some fishing tips for the general area. We will fish for about anything including cats so any help you all have would be appreciated.
Sam Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 That's a real good area of the lake for me. It's a long drive, so I usually just make a couple of trips there about July. All I know is to slow-troll (5-speed trolling motor set on #2) in 15 to 20 feet of water around rocky points, gravel points, and mid-lake humps. I like to use a 1/8 oz. Roadrunner tipped with half a nightcrawler. That method has produced limits of keeper walleyes for us, as well as some good bass, catfish, and big bluegills. The water looks so good around Isabella, I've always wanted to fish for bass and crappie but I haven't had a chance to yet. Every time I go there, I've been too busy catching walleyes!
rainbow Posted February 21, 2006 Author Posted February 21, 2006 Thanks Sam. Are there any white bass runs early and late in the day? I hope to get in to a mess of walleye. We plan to troll the area the way you suggested while at the same time running a line of noodle jugs for what ever else. Is there any time of day that is better than others?
Members BiteMe Posted February 21, 2006 Members Posted February 21, 2006 My parents live on Hwy HH and we usually take at least one week of vacation down there in July. We stay at Thunder Bay or Twin Forks. Have had good luck on Pt. 13 for both spotted bass and walleye. Good area for crappie if you can find the numerous brush piles put in by the locals. The area across from Pontiac Marina has been pretty good for white bass the last two years. BiteMe www.mo-walleye.org
rainbow Posted February 21, 2006 Author Posted February 21, 2006 Thanks BM, that is the exact area we will be in. How is the catfishing there?
Members BiteMe Posted February 21, 2006 Members Posted February 21, 2006 I haven't fished for catfish down there for a number of years, but we usually catch a few nice channel cats trolling for walleye and fishing off the resort docks at night with nightcrawlers. BiteMe www.mo-walleye.org
rainbow Posted February 21, 2006 Author Posted February 21, 2006 BM, we will probably run a line of noodle jugs in the evening at the mouth of coves. Be chasing the eyes in the daytime.
Forsythian Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Man, this discussion is mouth-watering! Rainbow, you are going to absolutely love the lake down there. Take some time to sight-see, and marvel at the water clarity and the complete lack of boat traffic! Over the past several years we have spent a great deal of time in the summers poking around the Buck Creek area, but last summer we rented a houseboat for a week (4th of July) and explored the lower lake and it was awesome. I posted a couple of pics in the photography section. c'mon summer!! Cenosillicaphobiac
rainbow Posted February 21, 2006 Author Posted February 21, 2006 Forsythian, pm me with some of your honey holes in that area. We'll be down for the first week of July all week. How far is that from your neck of the woods? Looking forward to it. I have heard the water down there is great and fishing good. Can't wait to get there. Are you fishing the tourney on the 4th.
Forsythian Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Rainbow, I haven't signed up yet... haven't fished one yet this year, maybe I ought to at least fish one eh? Isabella is a pretty good haul from my normal area, but not too bad from Buck Creek... when it gets closer to that time maybe I can help you with a pattern or something. Cenosillicaphobiac
