Members bryantsmallie28 Posted February 22, 2006 Members Posted February 22, 2006 With you saying you are staying on HH, the ramp at spring creek is a pretty good ramp with a courtesy dock and is kind of a low traffic ramp compared to say a pontiac ramp. It is also straight north and a short distance from point 13. There is a good bait shop on HH called Shockeys. Depending on what you are using, they usually have good crappie minnows and sell them by the pound and just kind of guess it and dont count an exact dozen like a lot of places. If you have any other questions just say something.
rainbow Posted February 22, 2006 Author Posted February 22, 2006 Thanks for the info bs28. We will be at the end of HH so it sounds like we are close. We'll leave the boat in the water all week so we can come in and out when we want. I will probably post up right before we leave looking for wallyeye and crappie patterns. Is there any white bass action in that area? They seem to have disappeared from the lake.
Sam Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Is there any white bass action in that area? They seem to have disappeared from the lake. As you say, white bass pretty well disappeared for me in the upper lake after 2002. I haven't tried for them in the Isabella area, as I've been too busy with other species there. I wouldn't count on white bass, but if you start catching some then it's easy to switch over and take advantage of the situation. I always keep a light rig with a Roostertail handy, just in case. While you're fishing for other critters, keep an eye out for surfacing white bass and listen for that "waterfall" sound in the distance - especially near sundown. They're a lot of fun if you're in the right place at the right time.
rainbow Posted February 22, 2006 Author Posted February 22, 2006 Sam, I was afraid you would say that. I will post before we go and check with you guys on the current patterns for walleye and crappie. Thanks for all the info.
Members hoosierdaddy Posted February 22, 2006 Members Posted February 22, 2006 Wow, That does sound like a fun family trip. If you wouldnt mind, could you give me the name of a lodge (prefferably on the water) in that area. I have been fishing the Taneycomo and Upper Bull Shoals area for years... Time to branch out. Thanks in advance
Members bryantsmallie28 Posted February 23, 2006 Members Posted February 23, 2006 For the time that you are planning on going what most of the people i know that fish around that area do is night fish. Pontiac is usually a high traffic area especially around that time during the day. that area is pretty big so it gets quite a bit of skiing, tubing, and jetski action during the day in the summer. Most of the people I know fish under the lights for crappie during the summer. and around the fourth of july theodosia marina which is just west of isabella has a big fireworks display over the lake that many people pull out on the lake to watch. I thought id give you the heads up for the family.
rainbow Posted February 23, 2006 Author Posted February 23, 2006 Thanks bs28. I was wondering what the daytime traffic would be like. We are there over the 4th. Most of our fishing will be early am while the party folks are recovering or at night. We'll run some jug linesd in the flats at night. With that clean water there will be plenty of action in the afternoon. Should be a good time though.
