timsfly Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Looks like Roaring River is back up again, now I'm just taking the word of the hatchery on this and USSG chart that is on the OAF Site, it looks like it is up a and running hard again. I called the hatchery this morning and the guy there couldn't give me very good info, he just said he thought it was up, I'm not going to work this morning, mom is having some surgery at St. Johns, so I'll spend my day there. But I would guess from the amount of rain and the USSG chart, that we are near flooded again. If you go down and try to fish, use heavy spoons, and plastic worms and eggs. If you are fly fishing, big buggers, glo-balls, san juan worms, and flash back nymphs will be your best bet. Good luck. Steve Smith Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Went down to Roaring River at lunchtime, and the fishing is going to be tough this weekend. The gates on the falls at the hatchery look to be wide open and the walkways are covered. At the point where Dry Hollow runs in downstream is rolling and the worst of it. There is far more water coming down Dry Hollow than out of the hatchery. The handicap platform in the fly area is underwater, along with the old dam, which is completely submerged. It’s going to take dynamite to catch a fish for a few days. Good news is the reports are backing down the possibility of more rain this afternoon and tonight. That could change too. ___________________________ AKA Flysmith - Cassville MO

Members mbgrulz Posted April 11, 2008 Members Posted April 11, 2008 Okay, so if i am reading the graph correctly, RR went up about 5 feet during the rain, and now it is back down to only a foot above what it was before the rain?
timsfly Posted April 11, 2008 Author Posted April 11, 2008 Yes the river is about 3 foot above normal, right now. just about a 1 from where we were on wed. Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
Members yummysmokedham Posted April 11, 2008 Members Posted April 11, 2008 I was thinking about coming down on Saturday morning, would it be worth the drive?
timsfly Posted April 11, 2008 Author Posted April 11, 2008 for fly fishing it will be tough, if you egg and worm fish you should have a good time, the river is getting better all the time, but I think it will be high and muddy all weekend Tim Homesley 23387 st. hwy 112 Cassville, Mo 65625 Roaring River State park Tim's Fly Shop www.missouritrout.com/timsflyshop
timsfly Posted April 12, 2008 Author Posted April 12, 2008 Roaring River did drop about 6" further today, and it did seem to clear up quite a bit, there is still a lot of water, but it is clearing faster this time, I guess most of the mud got washed in during the last bit of high water. There were several fish caught today on woolybuggers and glo-balls, and the jig fisherman did ok, most fish were caught on plastic baits, but a couple were fishing spoons up by the hatchery and caught about 15 fish in 4 hrs today, said they had a few more on but landed 15, one was 18" long.
