Thom Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 My son and his family (my inlaws) are planning a trip to the white river staying at Wildcat Shoals area next week (4/17). Any suggestions on what to use. What are the expected water conditions? They will have some of the group fishing bait, some spinning with lures and jigs, and some fly fishing. This is an annual trip for them so they know the area but the conditions this year will be much more challenging and different than usual due to the high water. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Don Allenbaugh Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 As of right now it appears there will be equivilant of 9 generators. That will be some high water. Don A

The radio station in Mountain Home has reported the Corps will open the flood gates at Bull Shoals today at noon. You might considered cancelling your trip.
John Berry Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 The flood gates are now on. Untill they turn them off, I would recommend being extremely cautious. The best bet would be to wait untill the flood gates are closed. John Berry OAF CONTRIBUTOR Fly Fishing For Trout (870)435-2169 http://www.berrybrothersguides.com berrybrothers@infodash.com
Don Allenbaugh Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Gates are open and running additional 5600cfs. Total output equals 10 generators. I agree with John, cancel. John I hope this will not effect you. It will get me some in the lower yard, but I am ready even for higher water. Don A
John Berry Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Don, I am way up the hill and out of harms way. Lori and I drove down to the river. It looks like Cotter Trout Dock and Roundhouse Shoals Trout Dock will be flooded. They have moved out anything of value. Members twrg Posted April 14, 2008 Members Posted April 14, 2008 I wouldn't worry about the water. Some folks sure are spooked by it though. I didn't guide today but I talked to 3 guides and they did great from wildcat up. You can catch plenty of fish in this using spin, bait or fly, it just takes getting out there and doing it. I caught fish in 1983 in water a little higher than this I bet I can now and so can ya'll. Jc Hurst Fishing Service
Thom Posted April 14, 2008 Author Posted April 14, 2008 They will have three of their sons going along if they go. What are the chances of them fishing at dry run creek later this week....thursday or later? Is dry run creek fishable with this high water? Thom Harvengt
John Berry Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 They have cut the flood gates way back on the Norfork and I would think that Dry Run Creek would be fishable. I also think they will be shutting down the flood gates on Norfork soon and it will be fishable later this week.
