Members redfish Posted April 26, 2008 Members Posted April 26, 2008 Well everyone, I've also floated the mulberry with Russ and it was awesome, but today I'm floating the white river south of fayettville. We are putting in at brentwood on old 71 and taking out at west fork. I think its about 7 mile float and we are going to scout fishing holes this time.I think the water is up to much to catch anything but we will try to find some good looking holes. I will fill you in on the float.
Members redfish Posted April 27, 2008 Author Members Posted April 27, 2008 Well me and my buddy Craighole went to the white river yesterday and it was awesome. We put in at brentwood park on old 71 south of fayetteville and tookout at west fork. In the first mile there was a little carnage on the right, it took my hat off and I never found that, a stick caught me below the left eye that hurt alittle but not bad. The next bad spot was probably 5 1/2 miles in when we hit a shallow spot and a change in elevation at the same time sent me into a tree on the left and I lost my paddle but got my boat. I paddled the rest of the river with a long stick, actually it worked pretty well. It was a great float, but it is not for beginners or canoes. The river is narrow and in places shallow. Now, if there was another foot it wouldn't be quite as bad. We didn't do any fishing but by the looks of it, I bet there is some great fishing holes. After the rapids there is some long pools and at the takeout at west fork it looks like a great place. The only reason I say that canoers shouldn't go down it is because it is very narrow at times, it has some narrow steep corners and it was hard enough getting a kayak around some of them. You can try if you like, but I wouldn't advise it. All n all it was a great float and would do it again, but next time I'm bringing an extra paddle. Have a nice float and see you on the river. Red
chub minnow Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 You should try the White east of Fayetteville between Durham and Goshen. Not as steep as the West Fork. More like Big Sugar, only a little steeper.
chub minnow Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 I mean Durham and Elkins. I shouldn't post when I'm sleepy like that. That stretch of river is kind of like if the Mulberry and Sugar were morphed together.
Members redfish Posted April 28, 2008 Author Members Posted April 28, 2008 Chub, shhhhhh. How long is that float?
chub minnow Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 There are various length trips you can do. That section is about 4-5 miles depending on exact put in / take out. You can go higher up, but that's about the best all around part. The access points are detailed in the Arkansas Recreation Guide.
