gonefishin Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Thats a big'un for sure. Lotsa sushi in that fish. Problem is I am still old school, raw fish is meant to be either bait or cat food. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." Benjamin Franklin, 1759
Don Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 I hear ya GF, About a half dozen years ago I tried both sakki and sushi for the first and only time. The sakki was OK; unique and acceptible in a cultural fashion. On the other hand the six different varieties of sushi on the sampler platter were not impressive at all. Only one of the six was somewhat acceptable. At one point I realized that I was not using any of the sauces that accompanied the baitfood and I knew that would make things better. I tried a few to no avail then I saw the light green stuff that must be like guacamole. I did not know what wassabe was at the time. After the one and only famous trial run, it hit me hard because I dipped the rice coated fish into a large glob of the stuff. I didn't know what hit me If I could have caught my breath i would have called 911. Soooo intense heat The strange thing about it was it did not linger like the heat of a habanero pepper; it disappeared as fast as it arrived. No more for me.....Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
MOBass Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Sushi is the BOMB! Rolls, sashimi, nigiri, et al. The only thing I am not too high on is the eel. Rarely do I use wasabi. I like the natural flavor and texture of the fish and don't want it masked by heat. You are right on with the heat going away and not lingering like a pepper. Try some on a steak sometime, sparingly.
WebFreeman Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Don, that's what I like about wasabi. I loved spicey, but don't like it to linger. Good stuff, for me anyway. “Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” — Henry David Thoreau Visit my web site @ webfreeman.com for information on freelance web design.
rainbow Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 If you ever had really good sushi you would know it.....if you like fish you would like the good stuff especially if it is made with ahi tuna. ymmmmmmmmmmm. Haven't seen a lot of real good sushi floating around in the Ozarks.
WebFreeman Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 And if you see it floating, it's probably not good.... “Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” — Henry David Thoreau Visit my web site @ webfreeman.com for information on freelance web design.
MOBass Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Haruno is pretty good considering were we are in the country and Ocean Zen is decent. While not traditional by any means there is a fried California roll at Ocean Zen that is fantastic. Dang I am getting hungry just thinking about it.
