Members KansasBoy13 Posted May 7, 2008 Members Posted May 7, 2008 If you dont mind what did you catch them on? I've caught some here and there over the years one today even just bass fishing with grubs and plastic worms but was wondering if there is a key bait that seems to do the trick... Heard plastic craws do a good job but never tried and thought crappie jigs would do an amazing job too but again never tried lol apparently i need to experiment some things myself...
zsmith62 Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 I've always found that swimming a 3 inch grub, crawdad imitations and beetlespins were all you need to catch goggle eye. Most of the time I catch them near structure like boulders or tree roots at the edge of the river. Zach Smith

The few times that I've made it out this year, I've caught quite a few nice fat ones in the 9 in. range. They were all very aggressive. wader
bclift65706 Posted May 15, 2008 Author Posted May 15, 2008 I like live minows and crawdads around big rocks and brush in 3 to 5 feet of water and in 1 foot af moving water not real fast and not real slow around willow trees

I have had great luck on anything that resembles a crawdad (small soft craws and even a 2.75 inch YUM Craw Papi for the bigger ones - you might pull in a Smallie too). As their name implies, Goggle eye (Rock Bass) love boulders etc... fish for em along rock ledges, eddies off large rocks, and out of the direct sunlight. Good Luck
bclift65706 Posted July 30, 2008 Author Posted July 30, 2008 I found 2in powerbait grubs PUMPKINSEED color woork almost good as live bait last weekend and I can never catch anything on artificial bait but them worked good as anything I ever used with 1/8oz jighead . we probley cought around 100 goggeleye from 3in to 9in and olny fished on 2 snags lots of fish in the rivers this year.
