timsfly Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Another great week at the park, the water level continues to drop and the water gets clearer everyday, the river is still about a foot over normal, and has a good strong flow, the river is clearing and we can see fish now in the river. Good fly fishing this past week, good caddis hatches, tricos are still comming off in the morning, saw a few B.W.O's this week, and we are still catching trout on beetles, ants, and adams. In the evening I've been catching a few on Lt. cahills. Most of the dries I'm fishing are #16's and #18's, on the caddis, I've been fishing some #14's. Nymphs are still good producers, pheasant tails, copper johns, prince nymphs, are good choices, I like to fish these flies with a second fly (dropper) the zebra midge, or a micro egg are my to favoites right now, but a san juan worm is good also. We have also been catching a lot of trout on regular sized egg patterns, thread jigs, grubs like the John Deere green, and on white thread jigs. Most weighted flies we are fishing on 6X tippet and 3-4 feet under an indicator. Micro jigs, and marabou jigs have been good, olive, white, tan, and black/yellow have been the best colors in jigs. Powerbait eggs and worms have still be top producers in zone 1, the eggs in orange, brown, and white have been good, and the worms in cheese yellow, white, orange and the orange peel have all been good. Roostertails first thing in the morning have been good, skunk, brown, frog, and black have all been working. Small crankbaits and spoons are good choices also, I've seen more fish caught on spoons this year than I have in a long time. If you are fishing in zone 3, then nightcrawlers, minnows, corn, and powerbait paste is the way to go, good luck on the river this week.
