Troutn Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 Well, I finally made a point to make it down to Taney to fish some high water. When I got there about 8:00 am there were 2 units running, about an hour later I think it went to three, and then about an hour later went to 4. I fished from 8:30 to about 11:30. I was fishing just down from outlet one for most of the morning and then fished all the way down to just above outlet 2. All in all it was a good morning. I picked up aprox. 15 fish with the last hour being really slow. Most were caught on a Y2K with the others coming on several different colors of #20 sow bugs. The outstanding #'s weren't there but they were all nice fish. The smallest was a brown about 12" and the biggest (not measured) being about 18"-19" bow. All the fish I caught were really good fish averaging probably 16". A good day all in all. I have been on here long enough to hear people go on rants about other fisherman. I don't claim to know the ins and outs of flyfishing and have probably done some of the things that have been discussed on here. I can tell you that anything I have done in the past that may be considered wrong, I did them in ignorance. That is why I have probably never written nor comented on such topics. BUT, today there was a blatent issue of unsportsmanship or perhaps just plain ol' lack of being considerate. I gave out about a dozen flies today and all but one guy went on there way. One guy came over to me, I handed him the fly I was using and he proceeded to tie it on right there and then started to fish right there were I had been all morning, an arms reach away. Ignorant about the ways of flyfishing or not, I have always known better than that! Unfortunantly I can now say I understand where the fuel comes from on other rants. Frustrating indeed!

Spinnaker Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 I just joined the forum tonight but I have fished the areas at the outlets for years. I have been following the reports on rain and water flows from Table Rock a lot lately. Since I do not come down enough unfortunately to recall how high the water gets with 2 turbines working, and of course with all the water that has been scouring Taney I have to ask. Can I wade the areas around the outlets and the boat launch like last year, or are there some dangerous surprises? Thanks.
Leonard Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 Hey Troutn... good report... good to see you got back on the water.. I was waiting to read about the smallies and walleyes you caught.. but I guess you were just chasing trout.. Kcangler... the area around outlet 1 is very bad.. alot of drop offs, holes, and a few suprizes laying up there... the water hasnt been off enough to really see the bottom... I stepped in on of the holes.. I was about knee deep.. took a step and I was chest deep.. and this was with 1 unit one.. WOW.. that water is still cold!!! outlet 2.. I havent really noticed any big changes from 2 down... but like I said.. it hasnt been off enough to really see the bottom... but the biggest change.. and the most dangerous.. has to be the area in front of the flat.. from where the ol'log laid (just below outlet1) down to the path way (the old boat ramp as referred by some)is completely wash away... ive seen this area with 1 unit on. But this was before they opened the gates for the second time. So it is probably got worst.. Ive noticed a few big rocks (boulders) that has changed locations...LOL Im sure there are a few trees in the water somewhere.. There is a new addition... by the old pathway (up by outlet 1).. the is a railroad tie in the water.. Outlet 1 has filled in just a bit.. I havent seen outlet 2 when the water hass been down.. As soon as I get there again and the water drops.. I'll try to get some pictures.. the lowest they are dropping the water now is 1 unit.. and it looks to be late (about 1 or 2 in the morning)... Spinnaker Posted May 10, 2008 Posted May 10, 2008 Thanks for the info Leonard. I am planning a trip Memorial Day weekend but will play on Table Rock for bass then. I will drive down to the outlet areas on Taney to see what there is to see.
