There are alot of options out there. I started off and still at times fish with a dogwood canyon rod and reel setup from Bass-Pro @ around $80. I have the 8'6" 6 weight and have caught alot of trout and bass with it. Bass-pro and Cabelas have alot of rod and reel complete setups in your price range. Check out the TFO's @ Cabelas also. I had a 5 weight and loved it, I had a dogwood canyon reel on it. I would go to Bass-pro, Cabelas and any fly shop you have close and see what is available in that price range. Maybe cast a few. Good luck.

While I have done it when I first started fishing, I have a hard time buying a fly rod through the mail or from a big box store who don't seem to know a 5 wt from a knotless leader...

My advice would go to your local fly shop and cast a few rods to get a setup that will suit you and fit you for a while. Yes, $200 is not a lot for a rod, reel, and line, but you can find something within your budget, I'm sure. TFO is a good one to look at, but be sure and cast some others before stettling on one. You'll be glad you did.

HFD's advice is right on IMO. Cabelas/Bass pro and TFO all make fine rods (I own 2 TFO pros and love them). A decent disc drag reel for your applications can be easily had for $50 or less. Spend the rest on a rod and line. I would look at a 5 or 6 wt for versatility and being able to fish for different species ander a variety of conditions and flies thrown. I love a fine reel but fact is, you won't need one for the type of fishing you are buying it for. Let us know what you go with

Terry and I must have been typing at the same time. Can't argue with his advice either. Jeez what's this world coming to. Can't even get in a good argument anymore (bet that don't last long LOL)

Vintage fiberglass! You can get a hell of a nice casting and fishing outfit for less than $200. I would recommend an 8' 6wt Browning Silaflex rod with a Pflueger Medalist 1494DA reel and for line, why not go with a DT6F 444 Peach. Check us out on www.fiberglassflyrodders.yuku.com for any more advice.
