Members puffydisc Posted May 23, 2008 Members Posted May 23, 2008 it is a big difference between maramec and montauk but my most productive has been a black Zebra Midge, use it under a scud and an indicator and your good to go
ekl-stl Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Start fishing at the spring.. Either spin or fly, using whichever flies/lures you are comfortable with and fish your way down.. wither to the end of the fly water or keep going in the bait area all the way to the end of the park... The whole park has good numbers of fish right now and the stream is nice and clean..
brittsnbirds Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Have fished it a couple times. We started at the spring and worked down stream. If the stream is clear you can stalk and sight fish the holes, behind boulders and under root wads. Zebra, rusty and primrose midges are great choices. You can either "high stick" or run them under an indicator. If the water is low you can get away with rolling your waders down to your waist. I have not fished much more than that portion of the park. Then you have everything below the park on the Current. Tons of fishing, nothing like the other state parks. Pat
hfdhoosier Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 I would agree with the other posts also....zebra, rusty, and primrose midges are my favorites. Last time I was down there, late april 08, red san juan worm that I bought at the lodge was the ticket. Cant go wrong with crackleback dry fly. Orange glo balls usually do well for me there. White thread jigs are killers at times there. I would agree, fish the fly area unless you want to use bait. Dennis Eat, Fish, Sleep,....Repeat Member: ozarkflyfishers http://www.ozarkflyfishers.org/
hfdhoosier Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 They are considered artificial bait. From the dam downstream is the artificial and natural bait area. From the dam upriver is flies only Definition of fly: In waters designated fly fishing only, a fly shall be constructed on a single point hook of feathers, tinsel, chenille, yarn, fur, silk, rayon or nylon thread or floss, with or without a spinner.
