lonkm Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 I use higher octain gas in my boat engine. I have read and was told that it burns the oil in the mixture better, less likley to carbon up the engine. I just bought a new boat and engine. The owners manual says to put in an additive for ethanol that will prevent water build up, or keep your tank full to keep out the air. It says nothing about ethanol harming the engine. I still avoid it when I can. When I am going to store my boat for a long time I use Stabil to prevent the gas from turning to varnish.
