Thom Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Thanks Phil and DT for the information . Kind of what I feared. Looks like it will be a challenge......that's why they call it fishing instead of catching. I have had good luch fishing behind islands and structure in the past when they were generating lots of water although I prefer tossing midges at the dimples and slow dirfting nymphs etc. I will bring my tying stuff in case I find out what is on the menu. As it usually works if you keep trying something new and present it differently fish always are eating. What I usually find is what works best is the fly that you usually only have three of. By the time I give one away and lose two I am back up to dock tying more. Never been at Taney and not eventually solved the puzzle but the days of fish jumping in the boat are over for a while. Leonard I will call you later today. I am expecting a call today that I can't miss so I don't want to tie up my cell now. I can't believe what I just typed. I am retired and someting is actually more important than talking about fishing. DUH Maybe I need to review my value system! Thom Harvengt
fly2fish Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Thom, Just got back from Taney yesterday, only fished at night. They cut the water back to 1 gen after midnight Friday and Saturday nights and the fishing was pretty good around outlet 1 and above. You may be facing higher flows then because of the all day and night rains that started last night. There are still quite of few walleyes up around #1, if you can get with Leonard and go up in the boat before dark you can probably get into a few, finally got one on the fly rod Saturday night. Good luck! Henry
Thom Posted June 10, 2008 Author Posted June 10, 2008 Hey Henry: I just read your post on leonards thread. Leonard called today but I missed his call. I called him back a while ago about....no answer.....where do you think he might be at 8 pm? Taking my walleye out before I get there next week. We will try to hook up next week. Plently of options to try. Been a long time since I hooked into walleye. I used to live in Granite City in Illinois and fished the low water dam next to 270. Caught lots of sauger and walleye up in the rocks. I would take a 6 foot ladder and push it down into the sand and sit on the top. Bouncing minnow tipped jigs or spoons off the rocks of the low water dam. Folks kind of laughed at me until they saw me catching fish. Next thing you know there were two three others fishing off ladders. Thom Harvengt
