MOBass Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 You can put in at Rockaway Beach, Empire Park in Forsyth, Branson Campground by the Landing, or Cooper Creek near Lilley's. I like the ramp at Cooper Creek myself but they all will work under most conditions. I tried trout fishing on Sunday and it was tough. Wind, 3 units running, and as mentioned already there is more stuff on the bottom. I lost more rigs in a few hours than I did all of last year. Next time I'll switch over to a float and fly rig to stay out of the debris.
Trav Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 If your going to fish Lower Taney exclusively then the key is to watch the water. If its low, I would suggest you stick to coves and creeks and fish them like you would fish any other body of water. When they start to run water, try to find channel switches and fish with lures or vertical fish with bait in about 12 feet of water and keep your bait a couple feet off the bottom. What I like to do is drift. But I also like to drop anchor and fish an area. If after 20 minutes or so you dont catch anything, pull up the anchor and drift down 50 yards and drop anchor again. Just continue the process over and over again. Then go back to your starting point and do it again. Its a relaxed approach but with family in tow it will be the easiest, You can cover alot of water that way. Being its your first time on Taney, I would suggest you spend at least one day up near the fall creek area as well. They are two totally different experiances. Just keep in mind that above Fall Creek you cant use bait. Be sure to read up on the rules and regs. Good luck to you! "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
Members benjisdad Posted June 12, 2008 Author Members Posted June 12, 2008 Thanks for the info guys..I'm really looking forward to getting out on the water. I was wondering if maybe there were maps available locally for Taney. I've managed a few online, but would be interested in seeing water depths or at least averages. I have a locator so getting depths will be easy. Thanks again all...
