Fishrman Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Yes, that was me in the Ranger. It is very hard to drop shot in that kind of wind. I don't see how you could guide a full day trip in those conditions. I admire you for that. That has to be an exhausting day. Next time I see you, I will come over and introduce myself. What is the deal on that topwater bite and what about my question on the shad? Do you know anything about that? Thanks Eric
ozarksfishin Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 I saw the same thing yesterday, I think the shad are in those trees for the cover and plankton bloom, and I have seen them going crazy like that in the past, usually there is a bass just under them and they are trying to get away. We just never see the bass come up and get them. I have seen shad that were pinned just under a boat dock and they were literally jumping out of the water and on to the boat dock, come to find out, there was a big school of whites below them. Needless to say, I had some fun for a little while with a jiggin spoon!! And yes it was an exhausting day!! The wind alone was enough to drive you crazy. Now you know why the bass get out in deep water in the summer, not as much fishing pressure because nobody can stand to be out in the middle of the lake to try to catch them!! Fishrman Posted June 9, 2008 Author Posted June 9, 2008 You know, my question is this. I understand the fish are on the bottom and if you are in the right place you will see them come up. How do you know what point will have them? I know with as much experience as you've had it is probably always the same points. But, can you see them on the bottom in certain situations or do you just go and hunt for them until you find them? I know that is asking a lot, but thought I would test the waters.
ozarksfishin Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Most of the time when they are on bottom, you can't see them. Just go over the points slowly and you will see the fish come up off the bottom. They see the shadow of the boat and come up to investigate (they think it is a school of shad I guess). They will usually come up to 20ft. or so, then drop your drop shot down just above them. You will see the fish streak up to get the worm and usually will see other fish on the graph show up as well. OAF Contributor Phillip Stone http://ozarksfishin.com
Fishrman Posted June 9, 2008 Author Posted June 9, 2008 By the way, how did you fair in the Tourney on Sunday?
ozarksfishin Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 we had 5 that weighed 10lbs., we culled through some, but just couldn't get that big one. We missed a couple of good fish early on the Red Fin, those would have put us right up there, but o well, we will get em next weekend!! OAF Contributor Phillip Stone http://ozarksfishin.com
