Im glad you had a good fishing day, I wish I couldve joined you. The section below Tan Vat hasnt changed alot, Im going to have to get back down there and check out the river from Montauk to Tan Vat. I couldnt get any dry fly bite, did you try any dries? Now you have got me plotting my next outing to the river, .....if I cash in my aluminum cans maybe I will have enough gas money.haha

Gene,

Your are right on the money for the Prime Rose and Perle. I got the recipe off of Jeremy Hunt's web site. Thanks Jeremy. Great fly pattern.

hfdhoosier,

As for dry fly fishing, I didn't even bother. I was hoping the Trico hatch was going to be better, but it just did not pan out. Then I guess a small caddis hatch was happing, but again very few bugs in the air. I might have seen 10 fishing through out the day hitting something on the sufface so I did not see a need to swith from what was already working.

I don't like to give up a lot of my fishing info, but I though I would share this time so a few of you guys/gals could see what is working at this time of the year.

later,

Fished below Montauk and walked Tan Vat to Baptist camp last week. Fishing was amazing. I'm farely new to fly fishing and the current river spoils me. Came half an inch short of having a keeper brown at Tan Vat and watched another guy pull out a 21 in brown the next day. Fly fishing is a teacher's sport, I've got all summer!
