J-Doc Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Anyone here ever fish Lake Ft. Smith? It recently re-opened after being closed for expansion. I hear the bite has been decent. There is not a lot of laydows or underwater structure that I'm aware of. Anyone have any tips? I was thinking of going down sometime soon for a night fishing trip and some camping. Thanks all! Guest Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Its been muddy. I would bring some crankbaits and fish the rock banks around the state park. Carolina rigs are good this time of year. That lake has more structure than one might think. Google Earth will get you started, but you really need a good fishfinder to locate the drops. Dont fish any deeper than 20 feet. Those bass will be shallow 0-10ft with the muddy water. good luck
Clay Goforth Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Fished the lake last week. Water was pretty dirty but fishing was decent. We didn't have a lot of time but I hooked up with a decent fish from the bank before even putting the boat in...The fish made a heck of a run, wrapped me around some of the non-existent structure on the bottom and broke me off. From there we ended up catching 4 other bass and missed probably 10 more...I know, I just told on myself but oh well. The lake is producing. I am going to try to go back this week.
