fox_76 Posted June 16, 2008 Author Posted June 16, 2008 Yeah, I know it was a regular copperhead. Just wanted to share the experience. LOL. They eat baby calves huh? too bad I couldn't get this one to do the laundry,... Let's just say that they are not bladder friendly , nor do they make good tent-mates!!! I didn't go to college,... FishinCricket Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Creeping around the campsite at master 2 weekends ago I see you showed it no quarter.. Good for you if it was a threat.. I pass half the snakes I see and would pass the other half if they would just pass by me as well... My sister in law got bit down by Salem, MO on the Jacks fork by a 7 inch long baby copperhead.. Allow me to give you some free advice.. If you do rush to the hospital (not exactly necessary for a copperhead I found out) DO NOT allow them to give you any cottonmouth antivenon (may have spelled that wrong) to treat it... From what I am told they basically gave her a second (and later a third) mild bite, only this time it was with a cotton mouth! this thread makes me wonder though.. Do you anglers and conservationists kill snakes and creepy crawlies? I sure do, and I love the wilderness.. But if it tries to bite me or eat me, it's a gonner.. Or at least kicked or thrown accross the river! cricket.c21.com
fox_76 Posted June 16, 2008 Author Posted June 16, 2008 Well,.. Yes if I feel threatened or feel that they are invading my personal space a little too much they will be joining the ranks of countless other creepy crawlers that have snuck up on me! If I only see them and they are just doing their thing and minding their business, I will let them pass,. but I also had 3 kids with me at the campsite so Didn't really wanna risk letting this guy hang out too long I didn't go to college,... Thank goodness for Simms waders at Crane Creek getting to the creek, they work as snake guards also.... I was born at night, but not last night. Odds are with the prepared...

If I am way off in the backwoods fishing by myself they usually get a free pass.. However if I am at a campground or near children they get dead.... cricket.c21.com
Trav Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I have a 5 foot black snake living in my barn. He is kind of a pet. He eats copperheads for appetizers. But he finds the main course of bunny to be more filling though. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
