On The Fly 6
Is the North Fork wadable at this point in time? Im REALLY wanting to do some trout fishing, but I dont want to have to drive all the way from Fayetteville to find that I cant wade and fish for trout. Can anyone give me some information please? Thanks! Members willber
I had the same urge last week, so headed for the North Fork last Saturday. It is wadeable, assuming there hasn't been more rain. It is maybe a bit higher than what I consider normal, but it is looking good. I fished around the two accesses at Patrick and Blair bridges. The water is moving fast, so it wears you out pretty quickly. Studded boots would be good too, if you have them. I do not, and it was a little interesting in a few spots. Water clarity was great. The action was pretty good. Not a huge number of fish or anything of great size, but enough to make it worthwhile. I tried mostly big flies - mohair leeches, sculpins, stone fly nymphs, grass hoppers, etc. The fly didn't seem to matter much, it was more about finding the fish. Now for the bad news. Canoes as far as the eye can see. A weekday would be much better I am certain. I had so many people ask "Hows the fishing?" or "Catching anything?", I was about ready scream. Watch out for the really drunk ones too, they will run right into you if you aren't careful. Oh by the way, there were a fair number of atttractive young women in bikinis, if that is any motivation. That really makes for a different trout fishing experience.
On The Fly 6
Interesting. If only there were attractive young women in bikinis that liked to fly fish...then I would be set! I may have to mapquest the North Fork and plan a trip sometime soon. Ive got that itch to trout fish and there is only one cure.... Brian Wise
Yeah, around the accesses is going to be pretty crazy. Blair and Patrick both should be pretty good until around 9 or 10 a.m. Later in the day it is going to be a zoo. I am waiting in some photos to be emailed before writing my next report but fishing last Thursday thru Sunday was pretty good. No insane numbers but good, steady fishing with some nice fish to the boat. I agree with willber, finding the fish is the key right now and floating the river is probably your best bet but like I said from daylight to around 10'ish should be real good around the islands above Patrick Bridge. Rubber-Leg Stones, San Juan Worms, and RFSN's have been the go-to's and get the deep! Brian My Youtube Channel
BrianK
I was down last wknd and the water was in great shape. No problems wading. And hey if you are wet wading then it really doesn't matter if you take a swim(except for the camera). Fished the upper trout water (ROLF to Kelly) Saturday afternoon during the peak of the canoe hatch. Caught about 6-7 fish total but definitely started picking up as the canoes and sun (and my kids' interest) started fading..... Caught another few fish Sun am from 10-noon. Most fish on black stones, olive woollies, eggs, prince, sj worm. good luck and scratch the itch. mine is from poison ivy from the weekend. Members huz001
Well, I don't expect to catch her; but my plan for next week is simple. Fish real early; fish real late; fish during the weekdays. Steve
