Members msubobcats Posted June 23, 2008 Members Posted June 23, 2008 White, white and more white. Anything 'white' would catch fish this past weekend, 6/20-22. Saw a kid catch 6 fish on ten casts using a white crappie jig (no, not a mini). I caught fish on white glo bugs, white thread jigs, tricos (white wings, white foam emerger, plus hatch was happening). You get the idea. Good times. Not too crowded, everyone very respectful on the river. Go Cats
3wt Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Dude, where was that trico hatch? I fished the 19-22 and saw no hatch to speak of.
drew03cmc Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 As early as the whistle blows, you can catch fish from now, till almost the end of Sept, early October on trico spinners in pools below riffles. However, if they are hatching below the park, down at Tan Vat, you can get up REALLY early, stumble to the Current there before dawn, and catch fish on size 20-22 Adams midge dries with a full thorax, then when the sun starts coming up, switch to spinners. Either way, awesome dry fly fishing! Andy

One of the most overlooked yet deadly trout killers. Some call them sculpin jigs or other things, but bottom line, they are average, run of the mill crappie jigs. You can get a pack of 10 or 12 at Wally World for around $1.50, 1/32 white are killers, event the 1/16 in high water will provide success. I've had good luck at Benett, Taney, upper Current, and Roaring River on these fine jigs, and the price can't be beat. You do get some funny looks when asked 'what are you catching 'em on?'.

I was fishing about 200 yards up from the dam/spillway. My guess would be (dead reckoning) it was across from the Hatchery (on the stream). Trico's everywhere for a couple of hours actually. I loved that stretch of the stream. Wish I was there now. Picture this...I'm covered in head-to-toe dollar signs with all my flyfishing crap, and here comes the ten year old with his zebco and crappie jigs. I thought it was great. Even helped him net a few, so fun was had by all. Next time, I'm getting a Dora The Explorer rod and leaving my 4wt at home... Go Cats
drew03cmc Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 It has to be Snoopy or Cars...Dora, just won't do it. Andy
