Members troller Posted June 30, 2008 Members Posted June 30, 2008 Can anyone help with information regarding the big blue gills on Table Rock. I understand crickets are the bait of choice at this time of year but any info on where the fish are normally located at this time of year and how they are fished would be appreciated. The small ones seem to be easy to locate but the big gills seem to elude us. Thanks for the info!
mclothier1 Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Not sure if this will help or not but we caught several nice keeper Gills off of some of the same points we were looking for bass. Caught them from point #7 to point #5 around 27ft deep off of a dropshot and crawler a few weeks back. Ive had the best luck with the crawler, Ive tried crickets, but they dont last long! Just remember, the biggest ones are deeper then the smaller ones.
SKMO Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 I concur with mclothier. I take my daughter out a few time during the summer and we catch them 25-35' deep on the open gravel near deep water. They are generally right on the bottom. Later in the summer they will get deeper. Pretty much the same type of places I dropshot fish. I do not like crickets for the same reason, too delicate and hard to mess with. I use 1-2" chunks of crawler. I have tried fishing around the timber but never seem to catch good sized ones. Wherever you are fishing if you catch some small ones move, they seem to congregate by size. Another good spot is around docks over deep water. Rig a slip bobber 10-20' deep and cast into shaded boat stalls. SKMO "A True Fisherman with a Rod in His hand, and a Tug on the Line, would not Trade His Position for the Throne of Any King"
