John Berry Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 For the last two days, I have been fishing the Norfork and it has been some of my best fishing ever. I have not put together two days like this in a long time. On Sunday, I waded up into the Catch and Release section and landed sixty trout. The large fish was a sixteen inch rainbow. The hot fly was a size fourteen copper john. Yesterday I went back and landed forty on copper johns and black zebra midges. I spent a bit of time fishing terrestrials and landed a nineteen inch brown on a Chernobyl ant. I took several fat rainbows on a Dave's hopper and missed many more. I also spent some time relearning the river. It is greatly changed since the floods and some of my old favorite holes are gone. The good news is there are some new ones that are very productive. FishinCricket Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 For me the best part about fishing a river after a flood is that it's back to an adventure in finding the right holes.. They still hit on the same lures, just have changed to different holes that you have to find.. Makes the day a little longer, but the adventure is worth it, isn't it? Thanks for the update... 60 fish? You must be one heck of an angler.... cricket.c21.com
Don Allenbaugh Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 John, You are right, it has been fabulous. The D B was my champion again. I won't give you the numbers for 3 days of fishing because most of the readers would think I was full of dodo but you know better. There was a guy one day throwing a green wolly bugger and he was doing real well also. I fished where Dry Run emptys in now. Didn't know that was you when I stopped or I would have just beeped the horn and waved. Don A
Greg Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Thanks for the report John. I almost came down on Sun. Now I wish I had. Greg "My biggest worry is that my wife (when I'm dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it" - Koos Brandt Greg Mitchell
John Berry Posted July 11, 2008 Author Posted July 11, 2008 You should come down. The fishing has been spectacular all week. It is beginning to get a bit crowded though. John Berry OAF CONTRIBUTOR Fly Fishing For Trout (870)435-2169 http://www.berrybrothersguides.com berrybrothers@infodash.com
bobw Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Headed down in the morning. Leaving Spokane Mo. about 4 am. We have never fished the handicaped area. Is it difficult to get to the catch and release area from there?
John Berry Posted July 12, 2008 Author Posted July 12, 2008 No, you just walk up stream a couple of hundred yards and you will see the signs on both sides of the river. John Berry OAF CONTRIBUTOR Fly Fishing For Trout (870)435-2169 http://www.berrybrothersguides.com berrybrothers@infodash.com
bobw Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Just my luck. Generation schedule says 1:00 they start at 9:30. We did manage to catch about a dozen each before the water came up. I had the best Cut Throat I have evr caugh, about 20". All of the fish were in great shape and fought hard. Just wish it would have lasted longer.
