cotterboy2007 Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Check out this fish from Monday July 7 2008. What A football. I think it was proablay right at 25 inches long and my boga scales showed it weighing just shy of seven pounds The picture does not do justice to how thick these fish are right now. I believe this high water is just what these rivers needed. Nearly every fish I have caught this summer is fat and healthy looking. When the water comes down we may be amazed at the # of big fish we see. There is just very little fishing pressure right now as well. If you have been waiting to come fish this river, I suggest you get with one of the area outfitters/guides like Gary Flippin at Rim Shoals or Jamie Crownover at Hurst's Fishing Service and book a spin fishing trip while this water is high. Fishing is just excellent and many folks are avoiding the high water.
Members Dumb to fishing Posted July 8, 2008 Members Posted July 8, 2008 Amen to that! Even the smaller fish have a pot gut. It's a wonder they are even biting.
rps Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 In many ways that rainbow is more impressive than the browns you caught the other day. Ignoring the "old days" people like my father experienced, in more modern times (1980 to present) the fishing pressure has made a large rainbow like that comparatively rare. I've caught several browns in the seven to eleven range (still waiting on my teenager - 13, 14, ...) but my largest rainbow in all that time has been a five and a half. Way to go.
cotterboy2007 Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 RPS, I didn't notice, but the small picture does kinda look like a rainbow, but it is a Brown. The picture taker did not have the flash on, so it is kinda dark out and I didn't edit it for brightness. If it would have been a rainbow, it would have been in capital letters in the heading for sure . I too have caught numerous browns up to 12#, but only one rainbow over 5 pounds, and that was like 16 years ago.
rps Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 My goof. I should have clicked on the picture to expand it before I wrote. Oh well, we agree. It would have been nice if it were a rainbow.
cotterboy2007 Posted July 10, 2008 Author Posted July 10, 2008 Check my post from a few days back. It shows the bait and discusses how I fish it.
